The commission will come 00:00:30.798 --> 00:00:34.529 to order. This is the time and place set for the public 00:00:34.539 --> 00:00:37.829 participation hearing in the general rate case application 00:00:37.840 --> 00:00:43.279 of Southern California Edison Company application 23-05 00:00:43.500 --> 00:00:48.029 dash 010. My name is Aaron Seibert and I'm one of the 00:00:48.039 --> 00:00:50.750 administrative law judges assigned to this proceeding 00:00:51.279 --> 00:00:54.539 I'm co assigned with Judge Sophia Park who's listening 00:00:54.548 --> 00:00:57.889 in to today's hearing. We are also joined by Karen 00:00:57.899 --> 00:01:00.859 Douglas who is the signed commissioner for this case 00:01:01.069 --> 00:01:03.270 Commissioner Douglas, would you like to make any opening 00:01:03.279 --> 00:01:05.510 remarks? 00:01:05.510 --> 00:01:08.620 Yes, thank you, Judge Seibert. I would and um thank 00:01:08.629 --> 00:01:12.599 you also to Judge Park. I'm the commissioner assigned 00:01:12.609 --> 00:01:16.088 to this proceeding as Judge Seibert said and in this 00:01:16.099 --> 00:01:18.888 proceeding, we will be reviewing Southern California 00:01:18.900 --> 00:01:24.150 Edison 2025 general rate case. I want to start by thanking 00:01:24.159 --> 00:01:27.579 everyone who's here today for taking the time out of 00:01:27.588 --> 00:01:32.439 their busy day to participate in today's public participation 00:01:32.448 --> 00:01:35.609 hearing. This being the first of six such hearings 00:01:35.930 --> 00:01:38.838 These hearings are a very important way for the commission 00:01:38.849 --> 00:01:41.459 to hear directly from individuals and communities who 00:01:41.469 --> 00:01:45.698 are impacted um by the results of this proceeding. 00:01:46.040 --> 00:01:49.558 And your feedback at these hearings gives us very valuable 00:01:49.569 --> 00:01:55.239 insights into concerns and priorities that will go 00:01:55.250 --> 00:01:58.019 a long way in helping us make informed and balanced 00:01:58.028 --> 00:02:01.879 decisions. This phase of the general rate case determines 00:02:01.888 --> 00:02:04.459 the total amount of revenue that Southern California 00:02:04.469 --> 00:02:09.028 Edison would be authorized to collect to cover various 00:02:09.038 --> 00:02:14.569 utility costs from 2025 through 2028. Right now, California 00:02:14.580 --> 00:02:17.960 is wrestling with a number of very important priorities 00:02:17.969 --> 00:02:21.710 that are necessary for the provision of affordable 00:02:21.719 --> 00:02:25.899 safe, reliable and clean energy service. These priorities 00:02:25.909 --> 00:02:30.058 include investments in clean energy programs, infrastructure 00:02:30.159 --> 00:02:34.508 maintenance, upgrades, customer eng organization needs 00:02:34.520 --> 00:02:37.558 and mitigation work against the continued threat of 00:02:37.569 --> 00:02:41.460 catastrophic wildfires. I'm also well aware of the 00:02:41.469 --> 00:02:46.058 affordability challenges that exist and that these 00:02:46.069 --> 00:02:48.979 priorities could place on ratepayers going forward 00:02:49.528 --> 00:02:52.788 to that end. We'll be scrutinizing the necessity of 00:02:52.800 --> 00:02:56.278 Southern California Edison's requested funding authorization 00:02:56.288 --> 00:02:59.550 and taking action to contain costs and minimize rate 00:02:59.558 --> 00:03:03.240 increases. With that said, I appreciate the opportunity 00:03:03.250 --> 00:03:07.008 to hear directly from community members today in order 00:03:07.020 --> 00:03:10.669 to understand your priorities and concerns. And I also 00:03:10.679 --> 00:03:13.229 want to thank the many staff who have made today's 00:03:13.240 --> 00:03:16.729 hearing possible including Judge Park, Judge Seibert 00:03:16.740 --> 00:03:20.610 the public Advisor's office, our court reporters and 00:03:20.618 --> 00:03:23.469 our it staff. Thank you and, and back to you, Judge 00:03:23.479 --> 00:03:27.710 Seibert. Thank you, Commissioner. The primary purpose 00:03:27.719 --> 00:03:30.330 of today's hearing is to hear directly from Southern 00:03:30.338 --> 00:03:33.429 California Edison, customers and the general public 00:03:33.439 --> 00:03:37.000 about this particular application. Your input and comments 00:03:37.008 --> 00:03:40.308 are very helpful as parties and the commission continue 00:03:40.319 --> 00:03:43.610 to consider all aspects of Southern California Edison's 00:03:43.618 --> 00:03:47.830 request prior to making a decision for participants 00:03:47.838 --> 00:03:50.588 that wish to provide public comments today. The overall 00:04:23.730 --> 00:04:27.689 purpose of today's hearing is to obtain public feedback 00:04:27.699 --> 00:04:30.709 and comments. This contact information 00:05:53.389 --> 00:05:57.519 has also been posted to the webcast today. Before we 00:05:57.528 --> 00:05:59.579 start hearing from the public, I would like to give 00:05:59.588 --> 00:06:02.619 you a brief overview of the California Public Utilities 00:06:02.629 --> 00:06:06.178 Commission and the application filed by Southern California 00:06:06.189 --> 00:06:09.678 Edison Company. The Public Utilities Commission is 00:06:09.689 --> 00:06:13.358 a state agency that regulates privately owned utilities 00:06:13.369 --> 00:06:16.879 such as Southern California Edison Company. Among other 00:06:16.889 --> 00:06:20.088 things, the commission decides how much money Southern 00:06:20.100 --> 00:06:22.809 California Edison should be authorized to collect from 00:06:22.819 --> 00:06:26.290 its customers and the actual rates that will be included 00:06:26.298 --> 00:06:30.290 on customers' bills for electric service. The public 00:06:30.298 --> 00:06:32.869 utilities Commission has five commissioners who are 00:06:32.879 --> 00:06:35.588 appointed by the governor and confirmed by the State 00:06:35.600 --> 00:06:39.790 Senate Judge Park and I manage the day to day activities 00:06:39.798 --> 00:06:43.858 of the case. However, the five commissioners are ultimately 00:06:43.869 --> 00:06:47.028 the ones who will decide and vote on whether or not 00:06:47.040 --> 00:06:50.949 to approve Southern California Edison's request or 00:06:50.959 --> 00:06:55.338 some other amount. Our job as the judges will be to 00:06:55.350 --> 00:06:58.129 evaluate the evidence in the proceeding and to write 00:06:58.139 --> 00:07:01.028 a proposed decision for the commission commissioners 00:07:01.040 --> 00:07:04.290 to consider the five commissioners will deliberate 00:07:04.298 --> 00:07:07.608 and ultimately decide whether to adopt the proposed 00:07:07.619 --> 00:07:11.088 decision from the judges or adopt their own alternate 00:07:11.100 --> 00:07:14.809 decision based on the evidence in the proceeding. It 00:07:14.819 --> 00:07:16.829 is estimated that the commission will vote on this 00:07:16.838 --> 00:07:21.028 decision in the first quarter of next year. 00:07:21.028 --> 00:07:23.928 I will now briefly summarize Southern California Edison's 00:07:23.939 --> 00:07:29.588 application in May of 2023 Southern California. Edison 00:07:29.600 --> 00:07:32.509 submitted its general rate case request asking the 00:07:32.519 --> 00:07:36.178 commission for approval of their expected costs for 00:07:36.189 --> 00:07:40.069 owning and operating the company for the years 2025 00:07:40.079 --> 00:07:45.278 through 2028. The expenses included in Southern California 00:07:45.290 --> 00:07:48.250 Edison's rate case application generally cover the 00:07:48.259 --> 00:07:53.838 poles, wires, meters employees and all the other activities 00:07:53.850 --> 00:07:57.220 needed to deliver electricity to your home or business 00:07:57.920 --> 00:08:00.980 The application also includes capital expenditures 00:08:00.988 --> 00:08:05.119 to upgrade the electric system, replace infrastructure 00:08:05.129 --> 00:08:08.809 address wildfire risks related to Edison's equipment 00:08:08.988 --> 00:08:13.000 and improve cyber security among others. It is important 00:08:13.009 --> 00:08:15.319 to note that the costs that we are talking about in 00:08:15.329 --> 00:08:18.889 this application are just one part of Southern California 00:08:18.899 --> 00:08:22.338 Edison's annual operating expenses that can impact 00:08:22.350 --> 00:08:26.869 customer rates separate from this proceeding. The commission 00:08:26.879 --> 00:08:30.600 authorizes recovery of the costs that California utilities 00:08:30.608 --> 00:08:33.710 actually incur to purchase electricity on the open 00:08:33.719 --> 00:08:38.489 market. These costs are directly passed on to the consumers 00:08:38.499 --> 00:08:41.457 and Southern California Edison is not allowed to earn 00:08:41.467 --> 00:08:44.928 a profit on them. There is also another proceeding 00:08:45.029 --> 00:08:48.399 that will determine how approved costs are distributed 00:08:48.408 --> 00:08:51.418 among Southern California Edison's customers and the 00:08:51.428 --> 00:08:54.599 specific rates that will be included on customer bills 00:08:54.989 --> 00:08:58.340 This is generally referred to as the rate design proceeding 00:08:58.548 --> 00:09:01.019 and the application should be filed later this month 00:09:01.649 --> 00:09:04.658 right now though we are here to receive comments from 00:09:04.668 --> 00:09:07.979 the public regarding Southern California Edison's request 00:09:07.989 --> 00:09:13.029 to increase rates and revenue by $1.895 billion in 00:09:13.038 --> 00:09:19.519 2025 and additional increases of $619 million in 2026 00:09:19.629 --> 00:09:28.359 $664 million in 2027 and $705 million in 2028. If approved 00:09:28.399 --> 00:09:31.379 Southern California Edison's total revenue requirement 00:09:31.389 --> 00:09:37.469 will be approximately $10.27 billion in 2025. Representing 00:09:37.500 --> 00:09:43.210 an approximate 23% increase over 2024. If the request 00:09:43.219 --> 00:09:46.918 is approved, the impact on a typical residential customer 00:09:46.928 --> 00:09:51.690 will be a monthly bill increase of approximately $17.49 00:09:52.119 --> 00:09:56.908 in 2025. A typical residential customer's monthly bill 00:09:56.918 --> 00:10:00.308 would approximately increase by an additional $5 in 00:10:00.320 --> 00:10:07.739 2026 $5 in 2027 and approximately $5 in 2028. We want 00:10:07.750 --> 00:10:09.960 to hear what you think about Southern California. Edison's 00:10:09.969 --> 00:10:13.500 request comments from the public can help the Public 00:10:13.509 --> 00:10:17.259 Utilities Commission reach an informed decision. The 00:10:17.269 --> 00:10:20.279 commissioners judge Park and I pay close attention 00:10:20.288 --> 00:10:23.808 to the opinions. We pay close attention to the opinions 00:10:23.820 --> 00:10:27.080 expressed during today's public hearing. We have court 00:10:27.090 --> 00:10:29.940 reporters transcribing today's hearing who will be 00:10:29.950 --> 00:10:32.349 taking down everything that is said on the telephone 00:10:32.359 --> 00:10:36.330 line. If you do speak, we ask that you speak slowly 00:10:36.340 --> 00:10:39.408 and clearly so that the reporters are able to capture 00:10:39.418 --> 00:10:42.700 everything that is said, the written transcript of 00:10:42.710 --> 00:10:45.590 today's hearing will be available to Judge Park and 00:10:45.599 --> 00:10:48.830 myself and the commissioners and posted publicly on 00:10:48.840 --> 00:10:52.399 the docket card for this proceeding. If you or anyone 00:10:52.408 --> 00:10:55.619 else, you know, are not able to make comments today 00:10:55.700 --> 00:10:58.918 There are several other ways to provide input or become 00:10:58.928 --> 00:11:02.759 involved. The commission considers written public comments 00:11:02.769 --> 00:11:05.418 regarding Southern California Edison's application 00:11:05.500 --> 00:11:08.739 which may be submitted any time on the docket card 00:11:08.750 --> 00:11:17.109 for this proceeding by going to A PS dot CPUC dot C 00:11:17.119 --> 00:11:28.629 a.gov backslash C backslash A 2305010. My name is Michael Bey 00:13:28.979 --> 00:13:33.639 V as in Victor Ensky. And I'd like to say why I 00:13:33.649 --> 00:13:35.658 don't think Southern Carolina happens. Edison should 00:13:35.668 --> 00:13:38.769 be able to increase its rates. Um It's not the job 00:13:38.779 --> 00:13:41.759 of captive se rate players to assure the continued 00:13:41.769 --> 00:13:46.918 profitability of se shareholders. In 2022 CEO Powell 00:13:46.928 --> 00:13:50.658 made $2.8 million total compensation. Edison issued 00:13:50.668 --> 00:13:52.798 three quarters of a dollar on stock dividends and since 00:13:52.808 --> 00:13:56.668 the last 10 years, they've increase of stocks appreciated 00:13:56.678 --> 00:14:01.090 by 32% overdue, an unnecessary mate or over. Excuse 00:14:01.119 --> 00:14:03.918 me, I put this on the website also so I'm going to 00:14:03.928 --> 00:14:06.259 try to speak but, and see if I can get it in 00:14:06.269 --> 00:14:10.389 by the three minutes but overdue but necessary maintenance 00:14:10.399 --> 00:14:13.320 was delayed until after the paradise disaster. Ben 00:14:13.330 --> 00:14:17.229 Edson went on a spending spree with fast food costs 00:14:17.239 --> 00:14:20.690 to the customers. I per personally witnessed huge convoys 00:14:20.700 --> 00:14:24.869 of brand new se trucks, 15 or 20 in number with 30 00:14:24.879 --> 00:14:28.798 or four staff upgrading our polls locally, they had 00:14:28.808 --> 00:14:31.330 three or four people mining traffic alone on a quiet 00:14:31.340 --> 00:14:34.349 back road where I live. These are country roads. I 00:14:34.359 --> 00:14:36.849 could often see them gazing idly at their cell phones 00:14:37.340 --> 00:14:40.440 The customers should not be penalized for as in speculation 00:14:40.450 --> 00:14:42.908 in nuclear energy. Bell's attempts at power plants 00:14:42.918 --> 00:14:45.649 fall squarely on the shoulders of helper management 00:14:46.038 --> 00:14:48.668 with the upper with the ongoing climate crisis as in 00:14:48.678 --> 00:14:50.950 claims to be going green yet slams their customers 00:14:50.960 --> 00:14:54.190 in so called expensive green energy. Yet it takes three 00:14:54.200 --> 00:14:56.349 or more years to get a solar project through the review 00:14:56.359 --> 00:14:59.109 process. It's an endless series of delays. Instead 00:14:59.119 --> 00:15:01.739 of listing all the conditions and corrections that 00:15:01.750 --> 00:15:03.820 need to be done, they dribble them out two or three 00:15:03.830 --> 00:15:05.719 at a time stretching out what have been two or three 00:15:05.729 --> 00:15:08.580 week process in two years. It feels like a carefully 00:15:08.590 --> 00:15:12.070 or calculated, slow walk because of the multiyear time 00:15:12.080 --> 00:15:15.139 frames and multiple handoffs. Sen associates. Could 00:15:15.149 --> 00:15:17.570 you forget what they've told you to correct after you've 00:15:17.580 --> 00:15:19.599 already corrected it and have you recorrect it again 00:15:19.690 --> 00:15:21.658 instead of putting you to the front of the queue in 00:15:21.668 --> 00:15:23.739 the view process? They throw you to the back of the 00:15:23.750 --> 00:15:26.200 queue along with thousands, sometimes tens of thousands 00:15:26.210 --> 00:15:29.500 to try again. You re you resubmit the corrections again 00:15:29.599 --> 00:15:32.599 and they either change their mind or they want to occasionally 00:15:32.918 --> 00:15:35.908 or they occasionally do help you and do some clarification 00:15:36.320 --> 00:15:39.639 The self generation incentive program for backup storage 00:15:39.649 --> 00:15:44.279 is no better. Ok. I'm going to, I'm going to just refer 00:15:44.288 --> 00:15:46.418 you to my comments on the website, but I'm going to 00:15:46.428 --> 00:15:49.779 say something given the clear and established pattern 00:15:49.788 --> 00:15:52.619 of misappropriation of customer money to the betterment 00:15:52.629 --> 00:15:54.840 of corporate officers and shareholders. It would be 00:15:54.849 --> 00:15:57.320 a, a trail of the public trust and dereliction of duty 00:15:57.330 --> 00:16:00.440 of this commission to permit the hiking of rates instead 00:16:00.450 --> 00:16:03.058 of see can better manage its funds. It needs to be 00:16:03.070 --> 00:16:05.219 nationalized so its executives could be held accountable 00:16:05.229 --> 00:16:07.469 as the public permitting a monopoly to exploit its 00:16:07.479 --> 00:16:10.609 customers is reprehensible and you serious? The customers 00:16:10.619 --> 00:16:13.590 are screaming rate. Who will help? I apologize for 00:16:13.658 --> 00:16:16.190 interrupting. Can you just slow down a little bit so 00:16:16.200 --> 00:16:18.519 that our court reporters can transcribe everything 00:16:19.500 --> 00:16:23.808 Um If, if you're ok, I have only 17 seconds left, but 00:16:23.820 --> 00:16:28.099 I did post this on your website. The complete the complete 00:16:28.109 --> 00:16:30.590 text of what I and I apologize for speaking fast. I 00:16:30.599 --> 00:16:33.668 just wanted to hit the three minutes but the complete 00:16:33.678 --> 00:16:36.609 text. Yeah, the complete text of this is on your website 00:16:36.969 --> 00:16:39.879 I apologize. The carriage return did not make it through 00:16:40.058 --> 00:16:42.989 So, 00:16:42.989 --> 00:16:45.489 thank you, Mr Minsky. We appreciate your comments today 00:16:46.629 --> 00:16:49.889 Thank you. Thank you, honorable 00:16:49.889 --> 00:16:53.070 operator. Next speaker. 00:16:53.070 --> 00:16:56.239 Our next caller is Joanne mcburney. You may go ahead 00:16:56.250 --> 00:17:00.158 Your line is open. Hi. Um This is, can you hear me 00:17:01.418 --> 00:17:13.088 Yes. Ok. It's Joanne Joanne mcburney, MC Capital Birney 00:17:13.630 --> 00:17:20.078 and I live in La Crescenta, California and I am all 00:17:20.088 --> 00:17:25.318 for taking care of what needs to be taken care of in 00:17:25.328 --> 00:17:31.828 terms of our grid and preventing fires and mostly I'm 00:17:31.838 --> 00:17:36.709 very concerned about the environment. However, I have 00:17:36.719 --> 00:17:43.430 been absolutely astounded at the cost of electricity 00:17:43.549 --> 00:17:48.469 at my bill every month and I'm very careful with my 00:17:48.479 --> 00:17:53.068 electricity and I just do not understand how I have 00:17:53.078 --> 00:17:59.049 such a phenomenally high bill. And 00:17:59.049 --> 00:18:02.479 uh there was something else that I was gonna, oh, I 00:18:02.489 --> 00:18:06.049 know the other thing that I've had a problem with with 00:18:06.059 --> 00:18:11.380 S ce is on being unable to communicate with them. At 00:18:11.390 --> 00:18:16.170 some point, I had to actually get a hold of the um 00:18:17.189 --> 00:18:21.559 the agency that oversees them because I was having 00:18:21.568 --> 00:18:25.509 trouble with an issue and there was no way to reach 00:18:25.519 --> 00:18:28.729 them by phone. They simply did not answer the phone 00:18:29.420 --> 00:18:36.088 Um So I am concerned that a great deal of the money 00:18:36.098 --> 00:18:40.568 is going to shareholders and CEO since it is a private 00:18:40.578 --> 00:18:46.250 corporation. And I think that maybe some of the expenses 00:18:46.259 --> 00:18:50.568 should come out of what they are getting paid as opposed 00:18:50.578 --> 00:18:55.848 to raising our rates. 00:18:55.848 --> 00:18:58.229 Thank you, Miss mcburney. I appreciate your comments 00:18:58.239 --> 00:19:03.509 today, operator. Next, next speaker, 00:19:03.509 --> 00:19:06.930 our next caller is Sylvia Messner. You may go ahead 00:19:07.709 --> 00:19:14.689 Thank you Sylvia Messner, Sylvi, a Messner Messn, Er 00:19:14.699 --> 00:19:18.709 and I'm in Laguna Hills to save a little time. I 100% 00:19:18.719 --> 00:19:22.209 support with the speaker. Number one and number two 00:19:22.219 --> 00:19:25.920 said um I don't think staying comfortable in your own 00:19:25.930 --> 00:19:30.380 home should be a luxury. Um I know people who are spending 00:19:30.390 --> 00:19:36.039 two and $300 a month for one room or one bedroom apartment 00:19:36.049 --> 00:19:39.459 just to stay warm. Never mind the ac in the summer 00:19:39.608 --> 00:19:42.328 I was gone a week and I returned out of town and 00:19:42.338 --> 00:19:45.750 I returned my bills the same. I had no real help in 00:19:45.799 --> 00:19:49.049 resolving that issue. That's the same thing. I think 00:19:49.059 --> 00:19:52.130 this company should be non profit, not a profit making 00:19:52.140 --> 00:19:55.828 company because utilities are a necessity for people 00:19:55.838 --> 00:19:59.640 and should not be way way over their budget. More money 00:19:59.650 --> 00:20:02.650 should be spent on looking into solar heat which is 00:20:02.660 --> 00:20:06.680 more cost effective and also doesn't cause wildfires 00:20:06.799 --> 00:20:09.250 I think that's all I have to say because number one 00:20:09.259 --> 00:20:12.140 and number two help me out a lot. I support everything 00:20:12.150 --> 00:20:17.459 they say Thank you. Thank you operator. Next speaker 00:20:20.420 --> 00:20:23.779 Our next caller did not provide their name. They mentioned 00:20:23.789 --> 00:20:27.279 anonymous from Laguna Woods Village. You may go ahead 00:20:28.670 --> 00:20:33.068 Hi. I agree with all three of what they said. Our neighbors 00:20:33.078 --> 00:20:36.559 in this community are in their eighties and their nineties 00:20:37.078 --> 00:20:44.868 Their bills now are between $250 and $750 a month for 00:20:44.880 --> 00:20:48.769 one or two bedroom units. They're now deciding if they 00:20:48.779 --> 00:20:53.699 can eat or if they can get their medication because 00:20:53.709 --> 00:20:57.140 they have to stay warm. And like number three just 00:20:57.150 --> 00:21:01.318 said, it's not a, a luxury. It's a necessity for an 00:21:01.328 --> 00:21:05.000 8090 year old to stay warm. Their houses are about 00:21:05.009 --> 00:21:10.130 72 to 74 degrees. Their units homes, condos and co 00:21:10.199 --> 00:21:14.689 ops are about the size of 890 square feet and a and 00:21:14.719 --> 00:21:20.229 1000 square feet. So there should not be a reason to 00:21:20.239 --> 00:21:25.799 have to pay between 2 to $700 a month just to keep 00:21:25.809 --> 00:21:29.000 warm. They also, most of our neighbors have Children 00:21:29.009 --> 00:21:31.500 that live out of state, adult Children in their fifties 00:21:31.509 --> 00:21:34.449 sixties and seventies. Some live in the Dakotas where 00:21:34.459 --> 00:21:38.400 it gets to about 30 below zero and their bills per 00:21:38.410 --> 00:21:42.568 month in 5060 year old homes that are not all that 00:21:43.229 --> 00:21:47.989 efficient are 60 $70 a month so that they can stay 00:21:48.000 --> 00:21:52.529 warm in minus 30 degree weather. So Laguna Woods Village 00:21:52.900 --> 00:21:58.309 it gets to about 50 degrees, maybe, maybe when it's 00:21:58.318 --> 00:22:02.519 cold and senior citizens again, like I said, should 00:22:02.529 --> 00:22:07.180 not have to choose between eating medication or trying 00:22:07.189 --> 00:22:12.029 to stay warm. So again, we thank those first three 00:22:12.039 --> 00:22:15.259 that spoke. We, we agree with everything and we hope 00:22:15.269 --> 00:22:19.729 that somebody does listen to this so that senior citizens 00:22:19.739 --> 00:22:23.529 do not have to extend budgets that they don't have 00:22:23.539 --> 00:22:27.578 on social security just to pay to stay warm in the 00:22:27.588 --> 00:22:31.858 summer or cool in the winter. It's for their health 00:22:31.868 --> 00:22:35.680 Thank you very much for listening. 00:22:35.680 --> 00:22:40.180 Thank you very much operator. Next speaker, 00:22:40.180 --> 00:22:43.140 our next caller is Brian Kaplan. You may go ahead. 00:22:45.029 --> 00:22:49.130 Uh Yes, hi. Uh My name is Brian Kaplan B Ria N 00:22:50.318 --> 00:22:55.358 uh yeah, slow it down a little bit. Um Well, my wife 00:22:55.368 --> 00:23:00.088 and I are uh retired customers. Um We're on a tight 00:23:00.098 --> 00:23:04.828 budget and I the increases are like a undue burden 00:23:04.838 --> 00:23:11.930 on us. Um uh Southern California Edison has been increasing 00:23:12.160 --> 00:23:16.858 rates over the years and the amount of increases are 00:23:16.868 --> 00:23:21.390 are coming faster and faster. Um Like uh when I moved 00:23:21.400 --> 00:23:27.078 here, it was uh below 19 cents a kilowatt hour. Now 00:23:27.088 --> 00:23:31.729 it's 33 cents and they restructured their tier system 00:23:31.739 --> 00:23:37.328 too where um tier one is smaller. So when you get a 00:23:37.338 --> 00:23:43.390 bump into tier two increase rates, uh it comes faster 00:23:43.430 --> 00:23:46.900 So they, they manipulated the tier system where you're 00:23:46.910 --> 00:23:50.108 gonna be in tier two faster and your rates will be 00:23:50.118 --> 00:23:55.578 increased Um, yeah, it's just, uh, uh, you, you said 00:23:55.588 --> 00:23:59.170 earlier that you, uh, would scrutinize this. Um, I 00:23:59.180 --> 00:24:02.640 hope you take a really good look at it, um, because 00:24:02.650 --> 00:24:07.670 the increases are outrageous and, um, I just, um, I 00:24:07.680 --> 00:24:11.170 think it's, it's really gonna hurt the middle class 00:24:11.180 --> 00:24:16.838 Um, we are on a tight budget. We, we are not, um 00:24:16.848 --> 00:24:19.890 you know, uh, people that are on, that can qualify 00:24:19.900 --> 00:24:24.390 the non care, um, or the care customers. Uh We are 00:24:24.400 --> 00:24:28.430 non carere customers because we don't qualify um because 00:24:28.439 --> 00:24:32.618 that threshold is so low, but we we are not real. I 00:24:32.630 --> 00:24:36.039 mean, we've, you know, we're lower middle class people 00:24:36.410 --> 00:24:40.549 and um the rate increases is gonna be uh undue burden 00:24:40.559 --> 00:24:45.769 on us and we really appreciate if you guys um do increase 00:24:45.779 --> 00:24:51.098 it, that, that you moderate it and um and take a really 00:24:51.108 --> 00:24:55.509 good look at what they're doing to us. Thank you. 00:24:55.509 --> 00:25:00.279 Thank you, Mister Kaplan operator. Next speaker. Our 00:25:00.289 --> 00:25:03.410 next caller is Gary Curtis. You may go ahead. Your 00:25:03.420 --> 00:25:08.430 line is open. Hi there. My name is Gary Curtis. Uh 00:25:08.439 --> 00:25:21.539 Gary Garry, last name Curtis Cu Rt is and I'm calling 00:25:21.549 --> 00:25:25.078 from Hanford, California or the Central valley of central 00:25:25.088 --> 00:25:30.759 California. I'm calling because I have noticed including 00:25:30.769 --> 00:25:34.588 my utilities has been going up every month. I've noticed 00:25:34.598 --> 00:25:37.910 that Edison constantly are sending those little white 00:25:37.920 --> 00:25:42.049 pamphlets with our bill every single month, asking 00:25:42.059 --> 00:25:45.039 for more money for this, asking for more money for 00:25:45.049 --> 00:25:48.959 that we are not made out of money. Ok. We do not 00:25:48.969 --> 00:25:53.750 have trees that grow money in our backyard. I agree 00:25:53.759 --> 00:25:57.789 with the other callers. They are asking too much money 00:25:58.189 --> 00:26:01.529 Now, you guys on the other end probably make a lot 00:26:01.539 --> 00:26:04.660 of more money than we do. And you guys can afford these 00:26:04.670 --> 00:26:09.170 increases. But people on fixed incomes and disabled 00:26:09.180 --> 00:26:14.779 like myself has to go by a budget and they continue 00:26:14.789 --> 00:26:20.578 to increase our rates. You do not see us filing paperwork 00:26:20.880 --> 00:26:23.969 with the commission asking for a decrease in rates 00:26:23.979 --> 00:26:27.049 every month because there's no such thing that exists 00:26:27.430 --> 00:26:31.219 But Edison's allowed to send a request in every single 00:26:31.229 --> 00:26:36.390 month for increase. And it's getting to the point where 00:26:37.219 --> 00:26:40.529 you know, people are gonna be not for that, they're 00:26:40.539 --> 00:26:44.039 gonna afford, they'll have to, you know, they just 00:26:44.049 --> 00:26:46.209 don't have the extra money. Everything else is going 00:26:46.219 --> 00:26:52.019 up, you have rent insurance, car insurance, fuel groceries 00:26:52.338 --> 00:26:58.809 your your rent, you know your gas bill, you know, we 00:26:58.818 --> 00:27:03.088 do not have extra money coming out. You know, please 00:27:03.098 --> 00:27:06.799 stop this altogether. That's all I'm asking. Please 00:27:06.809 --> 00:27:12.729 say no this, this cannot continue. You know, we have 00:27:12.739 --> 00:27:16.380 to live, we're all humans, you know, you got to make 00:27:16.390 --> 00:27:20.949 it reasonable. Thank you. 00:27:20.949 --> 00:27:25.739 Thank you, Mister Curtis operator. Next speaker, 00:27:25.739 --> 00:27:29.900 our next speaker is Tracy Carlo. You mean go ahead 00:27:35.920 --> 00:27:40.078 Ok. Hello, sorry. Can you hear me? 00:27:40.078 --> 00:27:43.759 Yes, we can hear you. Ok. My name is Tracy Cutter Skill 00:27:43.769 --> 00:27:52.009 My name is Tr Ac Ycarrasquillo. And so I do agree with 00:27:52.019 --> 00:27:55.838 all the callers that have spoken. I see a large increase 00:27:55.848 --> 00:27:59.439 in my bill every month, 3 to $400. And that is just 00:27:59.670 --> 00:28:02.949 that's outrageous. We have to live and, you know, somebody 00:28:02.959 --> 00:28:06.519 needs to really take a long hard look at this and I 00:28:06.529 --> 00:28:09.539 just don't think that it is fair, you know, with everything 00:28:09.549 --> 00:28:13.039 that is going on inflation, you know, the cost of rent 00:28:13.049 --> 00:28:15.769 and everything else that is going up and, you know 00:28:15.779 --> 00:28:18.910 with prices and then, you know, let alone you trying 00:28:18.920 --> 00:28:22.769 to enjoy your life and your family paying a 304 $100 00:28:22.779 --> 00:28:25.618 light bill every month. That's not fair. So I agree 00:28:25.630 --> 00:28:28.650 with every caller that have spoken and I just ask that 00:28:28.660 --> 00:28:32.189 you please reconsider this and think of others as you 00:28:32.199 --> 00:28:35.890 would think of yourself. Thank you. 00:28:35.890 --> 00:28:39.500 Thank you for your comments today, operator, next speaker 00:28:47.108 --> 00:28:50.588 our next caller is Lynn Wood Rock. You may go ahead 00:28:51.939 --> 00:28:55.039 Uh Thank you. You can hear me. Uh Last name is W 00:28:55.088 --> 00:29:01.088 I TT Rock and I'm in the southern or South Orange County 00:29:01.279 --> 00:29:04.890 area. Yeah, I agree with everyone that's already spoken 00:29:04.900 --> 00:29:08.640 These rates are really not necessary. They're, they're 00:29:08.650 --> 00:29:14.549 outrageous. Um The California Public Utilities Commission 00:29:14.559 --> 00:29:19.059 has already approved 3.29 billion in spending for Southern 00:29:19.068 --> 00:29:22.959 California citizen to mitigate wildfires and this is 00:29:22.969 --> 00:29:25.670 a state issue. It has nothing to do with you. Know 00:29:25.680 --> 00:29:29.858 a power line going down, if the state would take care 00:29:29.868 --> 00:29:32.759 of mitigating that risk by properly maintaining our 00:29:32.769 --> 00:29:35.358 force, this wouldn't be an issue. And of course, yes 00:29:35.368 --> 00:29:39.000 you need to maintain your power grid and so forth. 00:29:39.009 --> 00:29:42.799 But that should not be a reason to increase the, the 00:29:42.809 --> 00:29:46.380 rates. They, they're going up all the time and for 00:29:46.390 --> 00:29:49.729 what, we're not really seeing any kind of return. And 00:29:49.739 --> 00:29:52.160 also there's a lot of money that you guys are wanting 00:29:52.170 --> 00:29:56.479 to get into renewable energy sources, which again, 00:29:56.489 --> 00:29:59.709 if you would just run your operation more effectively 00:29:59.719 --> 00:30:04.390 and responsibly, it wouldn't be a need. Um The idea 00:30:04.400 --> 00:30:08.140 that, you know, we have to find other sources. Um It's 00:30:08.150 --> 00:30:13.529 just an excuse to basically from my perspective, in 00:30:13.539 --> 00:30:17.588 my opinion, to line the pockets of a lot of uh politicians 00:30:17.598 --> 00:30:22.229 as well as uh some of your executives on your board 00:30:22.449 --> 00:30:24.920 as opposed to really doing something that's going to 00:30:24.930 --> 00:30:29.420 be sustainable and uh affordable for those of us who 00:30:29.430 --> 00:30:32.989 live in California. And uh again, it's a really effective 00:30:33.000 --> 00:30:36.029 way to drive a lot of people out of the state. And 00:30:36.039 --> 00:30:38.500 uh you know, again, it's hard not to see it as something 00:30:38.509 --> 00:30:42.180 that's being deliberately done. I'll end there. Thank 00:30:42.189 --> 00:30:46.588 you. Thank you for your comments today, operator, next 00:30:46.598 --> 00:30:48.729 speaker, 00:30:48.729 --> 00:30:51.828 our next caller is William Williams. You may go ahead 00:30:52.549 --> 00:31:00.469 Thank you, William Williams. Will I am Willi A MS these 00:31:00.479 --> 00:31:04.130 recent rate increases are substantial. I have seen 00:31:04.140 --> 00:31:08.029 my personal electric bill practically double when I'm 00:31:08.039 --> 00:31:13.328 using about one third less power every month. These 00:31:13.338 --> 00:31:16.160 rate increases are ruining the quality of life in Southern 00:31:16.170 --> 00:31:20.059 California. You're driving people out of southern California 00:31:20.068 --> 00:31:23.180 because affordability for quality of life here in California 00:31:23.189 --> 00:31:27.779 is now gone. The company has received rate increases 00:31:27.789 --> 00:31:31.900 over the past three years and now this recent request 00:31:31.910 --> 00:31:35.400 for a rate increase is, is outrageous. My question 00:31:35.410 --> 00:31:39.338 is, when is the CPUC going to require S CE to start 00:31:39.348 --> 00:31:42.500 looking at stabilizing the rates and reducing the rates 00:31:43.078 --> 00:31:46.519 No one talks about that. It's just one rate increase 00:31:46.529 --> 00:31:48.848 after another. 00:31:48.848 --> 00:31:54.939 So the question is why is the C PC PUC allowing S 00:31:54.949 --> 00:31:58.949 CE to continuously raise rates instead of holding the 00:31:58.959 --> 00:32:01.900 line and asking the company, what are you doing to 00:32:01.910 --> 00:32:06.059 reduce the rates going forward? I'm beginning to question 00:32:06.068 --> 00:32:09.549 whether or not the fire damages and the judgment from 00:32:09.559 --> 00:32:13.838 the fire damages are buried into these rate increases 00:32:13.848 --> 00:32:16.900 We have no way of proving that hopefully somebody at 00:32:16.910 --> 00:32:20.380 the CPUC is going to dig deep and see if that's not 00:32:20.390 --> 00:32:23.979 happening because these rate increases are not sustainable 00:32:24.150 --> 00:32:26.479 Thank you. 00:32:26.479 --> 00:32:31.368 Thank you, Mr Williams operator. Next speaker. 00:32:31.368 --> 00:32:35.789 Our next caller is Dr Armand Agata. You may go ahead 00:32:38.650 --> 00:32:41.509 Can you hear me? 00:32:41.509 --> 00:32:43.979 Yes, we can hear you. 00:32:43.979 --> 00:32:48.400 Hi, Doctor Armand A Kanan. Um I do actually support 00:32:48.410 --> 00:32:51.519 uh uh what is currently happening with the raids and 00:32:52.160 --> 00:32:55.088 as someone who teaches management for sustainability 00:32:55.098 --> 00:32:57.140 We're talking about green technology. We're looking 00:32:57.150 --> 00:33:01.299 at the future generations, including our own child 00:33:01.828 --> 00:33:06.789 And the issue right now is uh you know, concerning 00:33:06.799 --> 00:33:09.529 the fires, you know what is happening with our environment 00:33:09.539 --> 00:33:12.199 right now, there's a reason why it's getting colder 00:33:12.209 --> 00:33:14.279 and colder and the electric bills are going higher 00:33:14.289 --> 00:33:17.900 and higher. And also the other concern is that we're 00:33:17.910 --> 00:33:21.118 talking about solar panel, wind power, but we don't 00:33:21.130 --> 00:33:24.689 have the infrastructure to support those technologies 00:33:24.699 --> 00:33:27.799 even if we put them up right now, the grid cannot handle 00:33:27.809 --> 00:33:33.160 it. So for the sake of future generations and uh and 00:33:33.170 --> 00:33:36.818 also in the sake of bringing energy prices down, we're 00:33:36.828 --> 00:33:40.049 gonna have to invest in future technology. We're gonna 00:33:40.059 --> 00:33:45.140 have to invest in systems that can monitor these grids 00:33:45.858 --> 00:33:49.559 And this way we can also prevent future fires that 00:33:49.568 --> 00:33:53.219 you are already seeing all the consequences, including 00:33:53.229 --> 00:33:56.059 what is currently happening with our weather patterns 00:33:56.209 --> 00:33:59.789 and why it's so cold now in the middle of March. And 00:33:59.799 --> 00:34:03.390 I think um you know, by doing that, I think eventually 00:34:03.529 --> 00:34:08.360 we would reverse the cost of energy and also you know 00:34:08.369 --> 00:34:11.239 what's happening right now. So with fuel consumption 00:34:11.429 --> 00:34:16.369 So I think looking at in the longer term for you know 00:34:16.378 --> 00:34:19.340 us and also the future generations, I think this is 00:34:19.349 --> 00:34:23.349 a wise investment. Thank you very much. 00:34:23.349 --> 00:34:28.039 Thank you operator. Next speaker. 00:34:28.039 --> 00:34:31.079 Our next caller is Emily Bell from Long Beach. You 00:34:31.090 --> 00:34:33.750 may go ahead. 00:34:33.750 --> 00:34:40.860 Hi uh This is Emily Bell, just Emilybell. Um I'm calling 00:34:40.869 --> 00:34:45.159 cause I'm concerned about the rate increase. Um, like 00:34:45.168 --> 00:34:48.619 many people on this call have said the cost of everything 00:34:48.628 --> 00:34:54.918 gas, um, is being alive, food is going up and up and 00:34:54.929 --> 00:34:57.699 we're all just being squeezed dry. And the fact that 00:34:57.708 --> 00:35:02.898 this private company that none of us can get out of 00:35:03.219 --> 00:35:08.898 having to pay is able to raise the rate every year 00:35:08.909 --> 00:35:10.918 to get more and more money from us and we can't do 00:35:10.929 --> 00:35:14.659 anything about it and we have no more money to give 00:35:14.668 --> 00:35:19.070 and there has to be a better way for them to be 00:35:19.539 --> 00:35:23.550 increasing their revenues to do these supposed projects 00:35:23.559 --> 00:35:28.820 that they want to do. Um So yes, hopefully you will 00:35:28.829 --> 00:35:32.958 reject their proposal. Thank you. Thank you, MS Bell 00:35:33.530 --> 00:35:37.059 operator. Next speaker, 00:35:37.059 --> 00:35:42.628 our next caller is Karen Tilt. You may go ahead. 00:35:42.628 --> 00:35:48.389 Hi. My name is Karen. Karen til Quist T as in Tom 00:35:48.688 --> 00:35:56.079 Illquist and I live in Palmdale, California where it 00:35:56.090 --> 00:36:00.800 gets pretty hot in the summer. My bill right now on 00:36:00.809 --> 00:36:05.820 the level payment plan is about $347 a month. When 00:36:05.829 --> 00:36:11.320 I first moved into this house, it was 270. I pay for 00:36:11.329 --> 00:36:15.369 11 months, the 270 on the 12th month I would pay up 00:36:15.378 --> 00:36:18.628 if I owed, I never owed, they used to owe me the 00:36:18.639 --> 00:36:23.168 last two years. They've increased my rate to that 347 00:36:23.179 --> 00:36:28.619 and I owe on the 12th month, about $400. I'm 68 years 00:36:28.628 --> 00:36:31.079 old and I'm starting to wonder like, how am I going 00:36:31.090 --> 00:36:34.659 to afford electricity? When my husband and I both quit 00:36:34.668 --> 00:36:38.099 working right now? It doesn't seem like we can quit 00:36:38.110 --> 00:36:42.199 working. I have reduced the use of my electricity. 00:36:42.208 --> 00:36:47.019 I'm on the time of use for the charges. Most of my 00:36:47.030 --> 00:36:51.489 stuff I run during the lowest cost and yet my bill 00:36:51.500 --> 00:36:55.260 is still goes up every single month is showing that 00:36:55.269 --> 00:36:59.000 I've used less than I did last year and the year before 00:36:59.010 --> 00:37:02.519 But yet my bill is big and I just think it's going 00:37:02.530 --> 00:37:05.648 to be getting ridiculous. Like how do people afford 00:37:05.659 --> 00:37:10.559 to live? You've got to cool your house. I keep my house 00:37:10.570 --> 00:37:14.300 at 78 during the summer. That's not very, I mean, that's 00:37:14.309 --> 00:37:17.530 what they're saying to do 78. So it's not like I'm 00:37:17.539 --> 00:37:22.070 keeping it at 60 to be cool. But yet my bill is 00:37:22.079 --> 00:37:26.610 still that high. I'm gonna be going sore as soon as 00:37:26.619 --> 00:37:29.340 I can get that. The rest of it done. I am going 00:37:29.349 --> 00:37:31.489 to be on the solar just so that I can get away 00:37:31.500 --> 00:37:33.969 from this because I'm starting to think how can I afford 00:37:33.978 --> 00:37:37.699 to live once we are retired? I've had people say you'll 00:37:37.708 --> 00:37:39.699 never get your money back from that solar. But I'm 00:37:39.708 --> 00:37:42.539 just thinking I have to be able to afford to have electricity 00:37:42.909 --> 00:37:45.610 and it's a shame because it shouldn't be like that 00:37:46.090 --> 00:37:48.760 That's all I have to say. 00:37:48.760 --> 00:37:51.059 Thank you, Miss Tillis. We, we appreciate your comments 00:37:51.070 --> 00:37:55.300 today. Operator, next speaker, 00:37:55.300 --> 00:37:58.469 our next caller is Larry Iron. You may go ahead. Your 00:37:58.478 --> 00:38:00.679 line is open. 00:38:00.679 --> 00:38:09.260 Larry Irian, Larryirion from Laguna Woods, California 00:38:10.148 --> 00:38:14.289 I have been trying to get in touch with Edison for 00:38:14.300 --> 00:38:20.168 weeks. The lines are completely busy all of the time 00:38:20.179 --> 00:38:23.648 and they want to put you on hold for 60 to 90 00:38:23.659 --> 00:38:27.849 minutes. Something has to be done about the communication 00:38:28.000 --> 00:38:33.000 with the Edison company. I tried to get a hold, I tried 00:38:33.010 --> 00:38:37.840 to apply for the care program since my wife and I are 00:38:37.849 --> 00:38:42.760 both retired. There is no way that we can find any 00:38:42.769 --> 00:38:48.059 criteria that would tell me what the criteria are for 00:38:48.119 --> 00:38:54.699 being eligible for care. And in addition to that the 00:38:54.708 --> 00:38:58.840 care program, I finally got a hold of somebody that 00:38:58.849 --> 00:39:03.070 was able to take the application information and I 00:39:03.079 --> 00:39:06.079 have yet to hear anything back about what it approved 00:39:06.090 --> 00:39:10.659 whether it is approved or not. So this means that the 00:39:10.668 --> 00:39:16.219 it department of Edison has made the website completely 00:39:17.809 --> 00:39:22.378 impossible to navigate for older people. I happen to 00:39:22.389 --> 00:39:27.780 be 92 and I have difficulty with technology anyway 00:39:28.289 --> 00:39:34.840 but making that website impossible to navigate, you 00:39:34.849 --> 00:39:38.159 can't get anything done with Henderson. As far as the 00:39:38.168 --> 00:39:41.958 rate increases. It has hit me as well as these other 00:39:41.969 --> 00:39:45.949 people that have been calling our bill in January. 00:39:45.958 --> 00:39:53.208 Of this year over January of 19 2023 has more than 00:39:53.219 --> 00:39:58.699 doubled and this is not why. So I would like to have 00:39:58.708 --> 00:40:02.119 something done about the rates. And also I would like 00:40:02.128 --> 00:40:06.188 to have somebody contact me as to the criteria for 00:40:06.199 --> 00:40:11.500 the care program. Thank you. Thank you, Mr Ian. Um 00:40:11.510 --> 00:40:14.340 I mentioned at the beginning, we do have a couple of 00:40:14.349 --> 00:40:16.958 uh customer representatives from Southern California 00:40:16.969 --> 00:40:20.228 Edison available today. Um I suggest you might want 00:40:20.239 --> 00:40:29.148 to follow up with Carrie Gardner. Her number is 9097732269 00:40:31.800 --> 00:40:35.019 Hopefully that will help. Please say again please. 00:40:35.590 --> 00:40:45.289 The number 909773 2269. 00:40:45.289 --> 00:40:51.639 Thank you, Kerry Cracked. Thank you. Thank you operator 00:40:51.648 --> 00:40:53.898 Next speaker. 00:40:53.898 --> 00:40:57.769 Our next caller is Nari Bagdasarian with the San Gabriel 00:40:57.780 --> 00:41:02.139 Valley Economic Partnership. You may go ahead. Hi, 00:41:02.148 --> 00:41:10.199 my name is Nari that's spelled Nayir. I last name Bagdasarian 00:41:10.208 --> 00:41:22.539 Baghdassar Ian with the San Gabriel Valley Economic 00:41:22.550 --> 00:41:26.329 Partnership. We represent a diverse group of regional 00:41:26.340 --> 00:41:30.699 stakeholders throughout the 31 San Gabriel Valley cities 00:41:30.840 --> 00:41:35.179 and I'm here to express that we understand the need 00:41:35.188 --> 00:41:38.750 for Socal Edison's request to meet the growing needs 00:41:38.760 --> 00:41:43.699 of customers and the state's climate and energy mandates 00:41:43.760 --> 00:41:49.289 Thank you so much. Thank you operator. Next speaker 00:41:51.269 --> 00:41:55.010 Our next caller is Linda o'brien. You may go ahead 00:41:56.110 --> 00:42:03.010 Hi, this is Linda o'brien. That's Obrien from Palmdale 00:42:03.019 --> 00:42:08.579 California. Um I certainly agree with uh uh you know 00:42:08.699 --> 00:42:13.878 Michael and Joanne and William Williams in their statistics 00:42:14.289 --> 00:42:17.208 Uh But also I have found a statistic that indicated 00:42:17.219 --> 00:42:19.409 that 00:42:19.409 --> 00:42:23.340 electric rates have in California in California where 00:42:23.349 --> 00:42:28.659 they are emphasizing solar and wind power. In California 00:42:29.409 --> 00:42:36.860 electric rates have gone up 54% since 2018. CPUC should 00:42:36.869 --> 00:42:41.829 return to regulated utilities. And as so many people 00:42:41.840 --> 00:42:44.708 have said, seniors have such a difficult time keeping 00:42:44.719 --> 00:42:47.590 up with these rate increases, which, you know, I get 00:42:47.599 --> 00:42:50.260 a notice almost every three months. We're requesting 00:42:50.269 --> 00:42:53.340 a rate increase. We're requesting a rate increase. 00:42:53.949 --> 00:42:59.909 I mean, who, who does that? And, ah, you know, when 00:42:59.918 --> 00:43:03.829 when a call for reinvesting your profits back into 00:43:03.840 --> 00:43:06.389 your business to take care of those things that you 00:43:06.398 --> 00:43:09.309 need to take care of for your infrastructure does not 00:43:09.320 --> 00:43:12.699 include giving bonuses and perks and $20 million a 00:43:12.708 --> 00:43:19.019 year salary to administrators. And that's about all 00:43:19.030 --> 00:43:21.829 I have to say for now in agreement with the majority 00:43:21.840 --> 00:43:28.019 of people who say no, no more. Cut it down 3% a 00:43:28.030 --> 00:43:33.840 year. What's the biggest raise you ever got? 6% 00:43:33.840 --> 00:43:39.760 anyway? Thank you. Thank you, Miss o'brien operator 00:43:39.769 --> 00:43:42.438 Next speaker, 00:43:42.438 --> 00:43:45.409 our next caller is Sarah Harris. You may go ahead. 00:43:48.599 --> 00:43:55.250 Yes. Hello. This is Sarah Harris. Sarahharris. I'm 00:43:55.260 --> 00:43:59.019 calling, um, representing the Black Business Association 00:43:59.389 --> 00:44:03.128 Um, we are the oldest active ethnic business Support 00:44:03.139 --> 00:44:06.500 organization in the State of California and we're here 00:44:06.510 --> 00:44:13.659 to say that as a um, see as a powering of the 00:44:13.668 --> 00:44:19.059 regional economy. Um and they safely deliver reliable 00:44:19.079 --> 00:44:23.780 and increasingly clean energy um uh electricity. We 00:44:23.789 --> 00:44:28.978 understand that investment um to our power grid and 00:44:28.989 --> 00:44:33.320 infrastructure and, and also the increasing the um 00:44:33.329 --> 00:44:38.579 climate related um occurrences that are encumbering 00:44:38.610 --> 00:44:42.239 us. We understand that the investment is needed and 00:44:42.250 --> 00:44:46.349 also to, to support with our economy and for our small 00:44:46.360 --> 00:44:50.469 businesses, we want to make sure that um they have 00:44:50.478 --> 00:44:53.829 what they need to support for their business and the 00:44:53.840 --> 00:44:59.128 economy 00:44:59.128 --> 00:45:03.989 hard fought. And, um, in the end, we believe that it 00:45:04.000 --> 00:45:06.909 will pay out for the better for all. And thank you 00:45:06.918 --> 00:45:09.228 so much. So, we're calling and support. Thank you. 00:45:10.590 --> 00:45:15.458 Thank you, Miss Harris operator. Next speaker, 00:45:15.458 --> 00:45:18.590 our next caller is Marlene Eccles. You may go ahead 00:45:19.668 --> 00:45:26.699 Oh, hi. This is Marlene Ma Rlene, uh, Eck Les. And 00:45:26.708 --> 00:45:29.530 uh, I just wanted to say that, um, I agree with the 00:45:29.539 --> 00:45:32.409 majority of people that have called that I am very 00:45:32.418 --> 00:45:37.320 very much against, uh, these really awful rate increases 00:45:37.329 --> 00:45:43.369 Uh, I added it up and just between, um, 20 between 00:45:43.378 --> 00:45:50.139 23 and no, between 24 and 25 it would be 22% 24 00:45:50.148 --> 00:45:55.353 and 10% 25. That's 32 percent just in two years and 00:45:55.364 --> 00:45:59.344 then another 18% over the next three years. That's 00:45:59.353 --> 00:46:06.885 a total of 50% rate increase over five years. That's 00:46:06.894 --> 00:46:12.425 huge and totally, totally unacceptable. Um, for all 00:46:12.434 --> 00:46:16.144 the reasons that most of the people have, have stated 00:46:16.155 --> 00:46:20.184 Also, I wanted to add one other thing, you know, um 00:46:20.610 --> 00:46:26.449 it said in California that they want us to use more 00:46:26.458 --> 00:46:32.840 electricity and way less gas and they want us to use 00:46:32.849 --> 00:46:38.099 electric cars. Well, those electric cars have to be 00:46:38.110 --> 00:46:42.789 charged. And so when you charge the electric cars by 00:46:42.800 --> 00:46:46.199 raising the rate on electricity, you're going to make 00:46:46.208 --> 00:46:49.945 the rates sky high for electric cars, which my husband 00:46:49.954 --> 00:46:53.655 and I don't understand because if they want us to use 00:46:53.833 --> 00:46:59.304 electric cars, why are they raising the rates on what 00:46:59.313 --> 00:47:05.273 it will take to use those cars? So I, so I ah 00:47:06.599 --> 00:47:12.369 I also feel that the um uh southern California Edison 00:47:12.628 --> 00:47:16.708 should not be able to just willy nilly raise their 00:47:16.719 --> 00:47:20.978 rates and that the CEO S uh and other people that are 00:47:20.989 --> 00:47:24.869 making humongous salaries should not be getting those 00:47:24.878 --> 00:47:30.250 kinds of salaries and that the um CPUC should not allow 00:47:30.260 --> 00:47:34.188 them to have this kind of rate increase. I could see 00:47:34.199 --> 00:47:39.398 maybe one or 2% and that's it. Ok. Thank you very much 00:47:40.530 --> 00:47:43.500 Thank you for your comments. Today, operator, next 00:47:43.510 --> 00:47:46.159 speaker, 00:47:46.159 --> 00:47:52.510 our next color is Gina Bedini. You may go ahead. 00:47:52.510 --> 00:47:58.878 Hello, my name is Gina Dominguez. All I really wanted 00:47:58.889 --> 00:48:02.539 to add mostly everybody is against this rate that I've 00:48:02.550 --> 00:48:10.679 been listening to except for one doctor and a 40% 40.6% 00:48:10.688 --> 00:48:15.500 is what I figured you're gonna go up by 2028. It's 00:48:15.510 --> 00:48:19.070 a shame that our Medicare can't go up that much or 00:48:19.079 --> 00:48:24.039 social security. So please, I hope with all these calls 00:48:24.050 --> 00:48:26.429 that everybody want patience and wait because I've 00:48:26.438 --> 00:48:29.478 been like, I don't know, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, but 00:48:29.489 --> 00:48:34.800 it will be worth it if this rate increase is not voted 00:48:34.809 --> 00:48:41.688 on if it is put down. Thank you. 00:48:41.688 --> 00:48:45.760 Thank you operator. Next caller, 00:48:45.760 --> 00:48:49.469 our next caller is Keith Holloman. You may go ahead 00:48:50.719 --> 00:48:55.378 Well, thank you for taking the call. Uh Keith Holleman 00:48:55.389 --> 00:49:02.030 Holle Ma N and I'm in agreement with the majority of 00:49:02.039 --> 00:49:07.809 the callers uh rejecting a need for such a massive 00:49:07.820 --> 00:49:13.728 rate increase. Uh, a reasonable rate is very understandable 00:49:13.739 --> 00:49:18.300 for future investments. But the extensive rate that 00:49:18.978 --> 00:49:23.239 uh we're looking at, I think goes well beyond the uh 00:49:23.579 --> 00:49:29.438 needs of the consumers. Uh I do not believe we as consumers 00:49:29.449 --> 00:49:35.360 should basically pay for the, uh maybe inefficiencies 00:49:35.369 --> 00:49:40.418 of the business being run. Uh Maybe the, uh instead 00:49:40.429 --> 00:49:44.619 of looking at rate increases, uh, the commission should 00:49:44.628 --> 00:49:48.809 be able to mandate or S ce should be able to look 00:49:48.820 --> 00:49:53.079 at their expenditures if they can reduce their expenses 00:49:53.438 --> 00:49:56.958 Uh which I'm sure there's a lot of waste in uh S 00:49:56.969 --> 00:49:59.978 ce uh, there would be a viable 00:49:59.987 --> 00:50:04.607 Means of increasing uh the rates at a reasonable level 00:50:05.088 --> 00:50:09.167 So I'm totally against uh the rate increase that's 00:50:09.176 --> 00:50:14.077 proposed, I would not be against a reasonable rate 00:50:14.577 --> 00:50:18.206 but I don't think that's in the future plan. So I really 00:50:18.217 --> 00:50:22.648 hope the commission takes a look at all of the comments 00:50:22.657 --> 00:50:26.107 that are being made. Uh I'm hearing a lot of senior 00:50:26.116 --> 00:50:30.997 citizens and that really needs to be uh focused in 00:50:31.008 --> 00:50:33.678 that most senior citizens are not living off their 00:50:33.687 --> 00:50:36.617 real estate investment, they're living off their month 00:50:36.627 --> 00:50:41.026 to month, uh Social security payments. Uh But again 00:50:41.218 --> 00:50:43.858 I just think that there's a better way for businesses 00:50:43.867 --> 00:50:48.407 to be run if S ce began to look at their expenses 00:50:48.718 --> 00:50:54.076 more so than just generate revenues. Uh the salaries 00:50:54.087 --> 00:50:58.507 of $20 million for the head of the, of the organization 00:50:58.697 --> 00:51:02.576 the rate of return that the shareholders are obtaining 00:51:02.788 --> 00:51:07.947 that's all understandable, but excessive rates should 00:51:07.958 --> 00:51:12.158 not be the burden of the consumers, uh which we are 00:51:12.587 --> 00:51:17.357 and I hope the commissioner will reject the rate increase 00:51:17.366 --> 00:51:22.146 in totality if not reduce the proposed rate increase 00:51:22.687 --> 00:51:26.988 uh to a much more reasonable level. Thank you for your 00:51:26.997 --> 00:51:30.616 uh opportunity to speak and hopefully we won't get 00:51:30.628 --> 00:51:35.878 this rate increase in 2025. Thank you. Thank you for 00:51:35.887 --> 00:51:40.738 your comments today, operator. Next speaker, 00:51:40.738 --> 00:51:44.228 our next caller is Valerie Galion. You may go ahead 00:51:45.607 --> 00:51:51.967 Hi, my name is Zia Gazal. First name Zarouh. I last 00:51:51.978 --> 00:51:57.717 name Gezalyan. Um I'm calling actually on behalf of 00:51:57.728 --> 00:52:01.566 my father-in-law. He is an 86 year old, uh, you know 00:52:01.577 --> 00:52:06.408 social security income, receiving a man living alone 00:52:06.417 --> 00:52:10.596 um, lost his wife. So he doesn't really cook. He doesn't 00:52:10.907 --> 00:52:15.357 you know, uh, use any ac, the only thing he does use 00:52:15.367 --> 00:52:18.647 is the, you know, heater during these cold seasons 00:52:18.846 --> 00:52:23.857 and being on his own, he pays over $200. His last bill 00:52:23.867 --> 00:52:28.506 was about $200 this month. It's ridiculous. You know 00:52:28.516 --> 00:52:33.536 he, he lives off of his own income and pays his rent 00:52:33.547 --> 00:52:36.797 goes, gets his food, you know, a little bit of stuff 00:52:36.808 --> 00:52:41.707 for himself. And, um, beyond that, it's, uh, uh, living 00:52:41.718 --> 00:52:44.486 for him, it's gonna be even more difficult if this 00:52:44.498 --> 00:52:49.058 increase does happen. Um, I agree with all those who 00:52:49.066 --> 00:52:52.927 are calling, I feel for them. This is ridiculous when 00:52:52.938 --> 00:52:57.286 you're, you know, living on a fixed income and, uh 00:52:57.447 --> 00:53:02.157 you know, need to survive basically. Um, I don't know 00:53:02.167 --> 00:53:07.607 how his bill could be so outrageously high when literally 00:53:07.617 --> 00:53:10.236 doesn't even, you know, use anything but the heater 00:53:10.248 --> 00:53:15.236 during the evenings. So, um, I pray that something 00:53:15.248 --> 00:53:20.117 gets done in regards to this for those who are really 00:53:20.127 --> 00:53:25.278 struggling as it is to survive. And like someone said 00:53:25.286 --> 00:53:28.308 from the callers, people are literally leaving California 00:53:28.316 --> 00:53:33.207 because of the situation, it's uh become really difficult 00:53:33.218 --> 00:53:37.558 to keep up. And at 86 years old for a man to 00:53:37.566 --> 00:53:40.756 pick up and move somewhere away from his family is 00:53:40.766 --> 00:53:43.558 really, really not the, the option that we're looking 00:53:43.566 --> 00:53:47.637 for. So please uh take into consideration all these 00:53:47.647 --> 00:53:50.047 people who have lived here who paid their taxes, who've 00:53:50.058 --> 00:53:54.917 given all they've got to the state and shouldn't be 00:53:54.927 --> 00:53:58.986 put in this situation cornered and, uh, what to choose 00:53:58.998 --> 00:54:02.968 what, how to live and how to pay their bills, uh, every 00:54:02.978 --> 00:54:05.816 single month. So those months, those days come really 00:54:05.827 --> 00:54:08.457 quickly. Thank you so much for your time. I appreciate 00:54:08.468 --> 00:54:12.236 you. Thank you, Miss Gil. I appreciate your comments 00:54:12.248 --> 00:54:16.578 today. Operator, next speaker. 00:54:16.578 --> 00:54:19.478 Our next caller is Marilyn Allen. You may go ahead 00:54:20.747 --> 00:54:29.047 Hi, this is Marilyn Allen. Ma Rilyn, last name A Llen 00:54:29.728 --> 00:54:33.398 I basically agree with the majority of the people, 00:54:33.406 --> 00:54:36.958 but I wanted to add one thing. I looked up on the 00:54:36.966 --> 00:54:40.388 internet. What Steven Powell, who is the president 00:54:40.398 --> 00:54:45.478 and CEO of Southern California? Edison. He's making 00:54:45.487 --> 00:54:52.867 2 million $791 a year. I would assume that's a year 00:54:53.807 --> 00:55:03.997 Ah, and the net profit for 2022 was $954 million with 00:55:04.006 --> 00:55:08.047 that, with those kind of figures. It's telling me that 00:55:08.057 --> 00:55:11.648 Southern California is very top heavy. I know it's 00:55:11.656 --> 00:55:17.497 investor owned, but that's no reason to gouge the public 00:55:17.506 --> 00:55:21.898 They can give a little, they, I think the public has 00:55:21.906 --> 00:55:26.268 given more than a little when I keep my home at 80 00:55:26.276 --> 00:55:32.117 degrees in the summer. 68 in the winter because I can't 00:55:32.127 --> 00:55:37.497 afford to pay any more is absolutely nonsense. Since 00:55:37.506 --> 00:55:42.377 I moved into this house, the utilities have increased 00:55:42.388 --> 00:55:47.478 doubled. This is something's got to give people have 00:55:47.487 --> 00:55:51.107 got to live, they've got to pay all these other bills 00:55:51.117 --> 00:55:56.417 How much can you squeeze this any further? 00:55:56.417 --> 00:55:59.247 Thank you. 00:55:59.247 --> 00:56:05.458 Thank you, MS Allen operator. Next speaker, 00:56:05.458 --> 00:56:08.836 our next caller is Gregory Prinz. You may go ahead 00:56:10.578 --> 00:56:13.768 Good afternoon commissioner. My name is Gregory Prinz 00:56:14.148 --> 00:56:19.667 Last name is spelled Pr Inc L er, I live in Garden 00:56:19.677 --> 00:56:26.117 Grove, California being one of those seniors. I understand 00:56:26.127 --> 00:56:31.268 what it's like to pinch pennies every year since the 00:56:31.276 --> 00:56:37.756 eighties, every year, we have gotten an increase 00:56:37.756 --> 00:56:40.867 for electricity and with that increase for electricity 00:56:40.877 --> 00:56:44.066 comes an increase for the gas because they piggy bank 00:56:44.078 --> 00:56:47.388 off each other. They're saying we need to watch our 00:56:47.398 --> 00:56:52.208 electricity because of the grid. Why didn't they watch 00:56:52.347 --> 00:56:55.698 building those electric chargers for the electric cars 00:56:55.917 --> 00:57:01.828 every time they do an infrastructure, um, solar wind 00:57:01.836 --> 00:57:05.958 power. We don't see, we don't seem to reap the rewards 00:57:05.966 --> 00:57:10.138 as far as the customer, but the minute they put those 00:57:10.148 --> 00:57:13.857 electric chargers, refueling stations in for the electric 00:57:13.867 --> 00:57:20.607 cars, our money goes right out the window and it, that's 00:57:20.617 --> 00:57:25.127 kind of nasty because we're paying for them. Why should 00:57:25.138 --> 00:57:28.367 we have to increase those electric chargers? They want 00:57:28.377 --> 00:57:32.177 to go and get an electric car? That's great. But just 00:57:32.187 --> 00:57:35.347 like gasoline, we want to power our gasoline cars. 00:57:36.006 --> 00:57:38.948 We're gonna have to pay for that. But no, they, they 00:57:38.958 --> 00:57:42.948 can't get away with this increasement increasing of 00:57:42.958 --> 00:57:46.586 um, Edison for what reason to pay off the lawsuits 00:57:46.597 --> 00:57:51.148 from the fire to pay off their, their pay because they 00:57:51.156 --> 00:57:53.547 decide they're going to sit on their behind and they're 00:57:53.557 --> 00:57:57.228 worth $2 million a year. That's not fair. I thank you 00:57:57.237 --> 00:58:01.328 for your time and I hope this doesn't go through. 00:58:01.328 --> 00:58:05.256 Thank you, Mr Prinz Operator. Next caller, please. 00:58:10.237 --> 00:58:14.877 My next caller is as may you may go ahead. Uh My 00:58:14.888 --> 00:58:21.656 name is Francoise. May Francoise is my first name Francoise 00:58:22.037 --> 00:58:25.857 I'm calling from Palm Springs, California. And as you 00:58:25.867 --> 00:58:30.478 know, Palm Springs is the hottest part of California 00:58:30.487 --> 00:58:35.237 and the hottest part of the country last summer, my 00:58:35.247 --> 00:58:39.818 bills, even though I consumed the least electricity 00:58:39.827 --> 00:58:46.068 in four years. My bill was practically double and I'm 00:58:46.077 --> 00:58:51.906 a low income senior. I'm 75 years old. I am handicapped 00:58:51.918 --> 00:58:57.217 not disabled but handicapped with arthritis and I had 00:58:57.228 --> 00:59:01.918 both hip replaced and now I'm limping. I am completely 00:59:01.928 --> 00:59:07.087 alone. No family member, only my neighbors to check 00:59:07.097 --> 00:59:10.247 on me once in a while to see if I'm still alive 00:59:10.627 --> 00:59:14.857 Last summer was so difficult in Palm Springs, we had 00:59:14.867 --> 00:59:19.646 a temperature of 120 degrees, three weeks in a row 00:59:19.656 --> 00:59:23.146 I totally understand. That's not the thought of Southern 00:59:23.156 --> 00:59:29.068 California Edison. But what I don't understand is that 00:59:29.077 --> 00:59:34.146 Imperial County, which is right next. We are part of 00:59:34.386 --> 00:59:40.087 this is Riverside County, Palm Springs, Imperial County 00:59:40.097 --> 00:59:45.087 which is right east of us. They do not have Southern 00:59:45.097 --> 00:59:50.007 California Edison. They have Imperial Service. They 00:59:50.016 --> 00:59:55.087 pay a third of what we pay in Palm Springs for our 00:59:55.097 --> 00:59:58.896 electricity. They pay a third there. I know it because 00:59:58.906 --> 01:00:02.957 I was still working part time. Even though I'm old 01:00:02.967 --> 01:00:06.257 and disabled and handicapped. I'm sorry, not disabled 01:00:06.487 --> 01:00:13.757 I was working at Macy's. My coworkers live in the eastern 01:00:13.766 --> 01:00:20.857 valley and they had in the summer, no bills of $70 01:00:20.867 --> 01:00:27.507 while I was paying 350. And my neighbors were having 01:00:27.516 --> 01:00:33.747 bills of $850 a month 01:00:33.747 --> 01:00:39.146 at a certain point. I called the hotline prevention 01:00:39.156 --> 01:00:42.357 suicide prevention because I was so depressed. I wanted 01:00:42.367 --> 01:00:45.377 to end it all. 01:00:45.377 --> 01:00:51.357 I cannot afford the prices increase. I really asked 01:00:51.367 --> 01:00:55.757 the commissioner, please relay the problem that we 01:00:55.766 --> 01:01:02.396 face as seniors in the climate change. You cannot put 01:01:02.406 --> 01:01:05.837 that on us. We do not have the resources to pay for 01:01:05.847 --> 01:01:07.757 it. 01:01:07.757 --> 01:01:10.786 Thank you. 01:01:10.786 --> 01:01:15.367 Thank you, MS May m may 1 follow up question? Have 01:01:15.377 --> 01:01:19.127 you ever attempted to see if you qualify for the California 01:01:19.136 --> 01:01:21.168 You have? 01:01:21.168 --> 01:01:24.367 Yes, you do. Ok. You receive the care even with the 01:01:24.377 --> 01:01:29.178 care discount and the fact that I reduce my monthly 01:01:29.188 --> 01:01:35.668 usage of electricity to more than a quarter. I reduced 01:01:35.678 --> 01:01:39.298 it. I practically don't use anything during the summer 01:01:39.308 --> 01:01:45.016 when it was 120 outside. I put the thermostat at 90 01:01:45.857 --> 01:01:50.007 and I am not a homeowner. I am renting from somebody 01:01:50.016 --> 01:01:56.068 who lives in Burbank. I cannot change all the old appliances 01:01:56.077 --> 01:02:02.036 and everything. So I am absolutely, I was suicidal 01:02:02.048 --> 01:02:06.087 because I could not pay my bills anymore. That's something 01:02:06.097 --> 01:02:10.947 that has to be addressed. You cannot have this increase 01:02:11.347 --> 01:02:17.237 when people cannot afford it. 01:02:17.237 --> 01:02:22.266 That is not fair. I totally agree with all the other 01:02:22.367 --> 01:02:27.207 callers who said no, we cannot have another increase 01:02:27.617 --> 01:02:33.276 in the last three years. The increase went over 40% 01:02:33.678 --> 01:02:38.558 in your rates have changed 40% up in the last four 01:02:38.568 --> 01:02:42.377 years. 01:02:42.377 --> 01:02:46.087 Thank you. You're welcome. And thank you to having 01:02:46.097 --> 01:02:49.636 this event today because it's really important that 01:02:49.646 --> 01:02:53.127 you listen to us. The other thing, I agree as an old 01:02:53.136 --> 01:02:56.357 person, I don't have access to the internet except 01:02:56.367 --> 01:02:59.497 on my phone and I can see on my phone, I don't 01:02:59.507 --> 01:03:03.737 have a computer. You can't communicate with Southern 01:03:03.747 --> 01:03:06.507 California Edison. It's impossible. That's another 01:03:06.516 --> 01:03:11.507 thing, Imperial, which is a different electric agency 01:03:12.327 --> 01:03:15.877 They operate like in the old days, you can talk to 01:03:15.886 --> 01:03:20.347 them. I have the name of different people who are living 01:03:20.357 --> 01:03:24.577 with Imperial and they told me you have to get out 01:03:24.587 --> 01:03:27.957 of Palm Springs, you get out of Southern California 01:03:27.967 --> 01:03:30.228 Edison 01:03:30.228 --> 01:03:34.478 and I can't do it because I cannot move. 01:03:34.478 --> 01:03:37.016 Thank you. We greatly appreciate your comments today 01:03:37.228 --> 01:03:40.097 Yeah, this is Palm Springs. That's the hottest part 01:03:40.107 --> 01:03:45.568 of the country. Thank you. Thank you operator. Next 01:03:45.577 --> 01:03:50.507 caller, our next caller is Manuel Meader. You may go 01:03:50.516 --> 01:03:58.457 ahead 01:03:58.457 --> 01:04:01.298 again, Ma Ma Ma, we are not able to hear you. Please 01:04:01.308 --> 01:04:10.906 check your mute button. 01:04:10.906 --> 01:04:14.487 Thank you, Mr Maser. If you're still having trouble 01:04:14.497 --> 01:04:19.886 I suggest hang up and try calling again. 01:04:19.886 --> 01:04:23.697 Ok, thank you operator. Next speaker. Thank you. Our 01:04:23.707 --> 01:04:28.798 next caller is Levy Brown. You may go ahead. Yes. Hello 01:04:29.536 --> 01:04:36.776 My concerns are numerous. Uh those for seniors, disabled 01:04:36.786 --> 01:04:42.357 seniors being on fixed incomes. We're having to budget 01:04:42.808 --> 01:04:46.886 but yet as someone said, and I looked up my own self 01:04:46.896 --> 01:04:57.997 that people are being paid 73,000 $300,000 of for executives 01:04:58.127 --> 01:05:03.987 plus bonuses, millions of dollars for the CEO plus 01:05:03.997 --> 01:05:10.877 bonuses with having social security as our own income 01:05:11.207 --> 01:05:16.276 We're having to budget all of our bills with what money 01:05:16.286 --> 01:05:23.857 we do get 3% increase and yet the electric companies 01:05:23.867 --> 01:05:27.918 asking for a higher increase than what we even get 01:05:27.928 --> 01:05:35.798 per year, even with 8% that we got not long ago. That's 01:05:35.808 --> 01:05:40.377 still, you know what they're asking for is even more 01:05:40.386 --> 01:05:45.117 than what we would be getting. I know of people that 01:05:45.127 --> 01:05:51.418 have a house and they keep their utilities, their electricity 01:05:52.308 --> 01:05:57.906 at a regular rate at degrees and they're paying 400 01:05:57.918 --> 01:06:02.587 plus per month. We have temperatures up in the Lancaster 01:06:02.776 --> 01:06:07.036 Palmdale area. But in the summer they're going up to 01:06:07.068 --> 01:06:12.367 100 15 degrees and we get no compensation that we're 01:06:12.377 --> 01:06:17.877 having to turn our air up higher to compensate for 01:06:17.886 --> 01:06:22.438 the heat. We get freezing cold temperatures in the 01:06:22.447 --> 01:06:26.036 winter and we have to turn up our heat and some of 01:06:26.048 --> 01:06:30.636 our heaters are electric switched and you know, where 01:06:30.646 --> 01:06:34.276 we live, we cannot help it because some of us living 01:06:34.286 --> 01:06:39.367 in apartments, that's what they have provided. But 01:06:39.377 --> 01:06:44.558 you know, they're wanting to get more money. How about 01:06:44.568 --> 01:06:48.497 they live on a budget? How about they decrease all 01:06:48.507 --> 01:06:53.688 of these bonuses? How about they, when they have their 01:06:53.697 --> 01:06:58.607 planned outages for repairs that they do the work? 01:06:58.617 --> 01:07:02.107 Right. So that they don't have to keep coming back 01:07:02.117 --> 01:07:07.728 monthly to keep doing the same repairs, replacing the 01:07:07.737 --> 01:07:12.046 same equipment or saying, oh, we have to do this to 01:07:12.056 --> 01:07:16.007 it. We have to do that to it. Why didn't they get 01:07:16.017 --> 01:07:20.546 the repair totally fixed at the time when they had 01:07:20.556 --> 01:07:26.987 it? Many people with being on fixed incomes and needing 01:07:26.997 --> 01:07:30.836 to have their utilities. Be some being on the care 01:07:30.846 --> 01:07:34.767 program, some being on the medical baseline, some of 01:07:34.777 --> 01:07:40.898 us are medically in need of having these utilities 01:07:41.546 --> 01:07:46.138 And you know, I'm one of those I have a medical need 01:07:46.148 --> 01:07:52.368 for it, but my, my income, it's such that if they keep 01:07:52.378 --> 01:07:57.447 having increases, increases, increases and here, you 01:07:57.457 --> 01:08:00.237 know, how am I supposed to pay for that? How am I 01:08:00.247 --> 01:08:02.667 supposed to pay for food? How am I supposed to pay 01:08:02.677 --> 01:08:06.408 for where I live? How am I supposed to, you know, pay 01:08:06.417 --> 01:08:10.447 for any other bills that I have? And I have minimal 01:08:10.457 --> 01:08:17.908 bills as it is for winter. I'm having $53 plus for 01:08:17.917 --> 01:08:23.747 utilities, but I not using hardly anything as far as 01:08:23.757 --> 01:08:29.228 utilities go. So they need to be on a budget. I see 01:08:29.237 --> 01:08:32.767 You know, and I'm not trying to take away from people 01:08:32.777 --> 01:08:36.947 having a living wage, but $20 an hour and me being 01:08:36.957 --> 01:08:40.947 a senior, that's more than I ever got per hour. But 01:08:40.957 --> 01:08:47.757 the CEO S and their bonuses need to be cut off so 01:08:47.767 --> 01:08:51.517 that, you know, we're not paying for their bonuses 01:08:51.556 --> 01:08:56.296 in the electricity rates being increased. And how about 01:08:56.306 --> 01:09:01.478 having businesses bear the brunt of these increases 01:09:01.487 --> 01:09:05.978 instead of always the residential customers? Thank 01:09:05.987 --> 01:09:07.997 you, Miss Brown. You're well past the three minutes 01:09:08.007 --> 01:09:12.228 Could you, uh, try and wrap up your comments? 01:09:12.228 --> 01:09:17.987 It just needs to be not approved for these rate increases 01:09:17.997 --> 01:09:21.398 and they need to dial it back at Southern California 01:09:21.408 --> 01:09:24.287 Edison. 01:09:24.287 --> 01:09:29.118 Thank you very much operator. Next speaker. 01:09:29.118 --> 01:09:32.368 Our next caller is Mary Land camp. You may go ahead 01:09:40.596 --> 01:10:01.707 Ok, one moment please, 01:10:01.707 --> 01:10:06.296 operator, I'm not able to hear anything. Are you? I'm 01:10:06.306 --> 01:10:10.858 sorry. Do I have. Can you hear me now? Yes, thank you 01:10:11.467 --> 01:10:14.336 Ah, Mary Land kamp. Sorry, I didn't know how to connect 01:10:14.566 --> 01:10:19.207 Um, I, I love what everyone has to say and I concur 01:10:19.296 --> 01:10:22.608 with pretty much everyone that we do not need a rate 01:10:22.618 --> 01:10:28.228 increase. I again, am a senior student or not a student 01:10:28.296 --> 01:10:33.408 senior citizen in the Temecula area. And, um, the rates 01:10:33.503 --> 01:10:36.711 just keep going up and up and I've been trying to be 01:10:36.721 --> 01:10:40.023 very conservative on keeping my temperature in the 01:10:40.033 --> 01:10:43.753 summer, even at 80 degrees and in the winter at 60 01:10:43.763 --> 01:10:48.503 degrees and I still see an increase. And um, so I concur 01:10:48.513 --> 01:10:52.632 with a lot of people and their recent comments. Thank 01:10:52.642 --> 01:10:57.007 you for letting me share my thoughts. Thank you very 01:10:57.017 --> 01:11:00.517 much for your comments today. A reminder when you first 01:11:00.527 --> 01:11:03.728 joined, please spell your name and indicate the city 01:11:03.737 --> 01:11:06.566 you are calling from operator. Next speaker, please 01:11:08.437 --> 01:11:11.687 Our next scholar is Gigi Jackson. You may go ahead 01:11:13.947 --> 01:11:20.167 Oh, hi. This is Gigi. Can you hear me? Yes. Ok. Um 01:11:20.177 --> 01:11:23.467 Thank you for taking this this taking this afternoon 01:11:23.478 --> 01:11:28.388 to listen to our concerns. Um I'm GD Jackson and I 01:11:28.398 --> 01:11:33.128 live in Orange County and I, I'm a retired educator 01:11:33.138 --> 01:11:37.846 and after retiring seven years ago, just as everyone 01:11:37.858 --> 01:11:40.717 has said, and I concur with everyone that have shared 01:11:40.728 --> 01:11:45.108 their concerns and their complaints, my electric bill 01:11:45.118 --> 01:11:49.427 has just doubled if not tripled in certain cases. And 01:11:49.437 --> 01:11:53.447 when you are living on a fixed income. It is, it's 01:11:53.927 --> 01:11:56.517 you have to literally pick and choose what you're gonna 01:11:56.527 --> 01:12:01.207 pay in order to make, make your bills and not fall 01:12:01.217 --> 01:12:07.217 too behind. Um I just feel that we cannot continue 01:12:07.228 --> 01:12:10.336 to move at this pace and some of the people have done 01:12:10.346 --> 01:12:13.398 their homework and found the salaries of some of the 01:12:13.728 --> 01:12:17.527 the CEO S and the other personnel that are working 01:12:17.537 --> 01:12:20.667 It's just not fair to put this burden on us and I 01:12:20.677 --> 01:12:24.138 came in a little late. But if I heard correctly, I 01:12:24.148 --> 01:12:27.556 heard that in 2025 our bill is going to go up over 01:12:27.566 --> 01:12:33.417 25%. That is just unreal. So I hope the comments that 01:12:33.427 --> 01:12:36.437 you're hearing today do not fall on deaf ears. I go 01:12:36.447 --> 01:12:40.066 to several of our city council meetings and we have 01:12:40.076 --> 01:12:43.967 a majority group that regardless of what the citizens 01:12:43.978 --> 01:12:47.457 are saying, even though almost everyone that goes to 01:12:47.467 --> 01:12:50.336 the podium is saying, don't do this, don't do this 01:12:50.346 --> 01:12:53.527 It's not good for our city. After all comments are 01:12:53.537 --> 01:12:56.917 made, it's like it fell on deaf ears and they vote 01:12:56.927 --> 01:12:59.858 the complete opposite. So I hope that the comments 01:12:59.868 --> 01:13:03.066 that are you're hearing today are not falling on deaf 01:13:03.076 --> 01:13:06.628 ears and you truly are listening to the concerns of 01:13:06.638 --> 01:13:10.417 everyone that has spoken this afternoon. Um It's a 01:13:10.427 --> 01:13:14.197 reality, we cannot continue at this pace. We're concerned 01:13:14.207 --> 01:13:17.596 about our homeless population and at this pace, if 01:13:17.608 --> 01:13:21.046 those of us that are on fixed incomes continue at this 01:13:21.056 --> 01:13:23.076 pace. We're not going to be able to continue in our 01:13:23.368 --> 01:13:27.296 house or the apartment that we live. So, thank you 01:13:27.306 --> 01:13:30.437 for taking the time to listen to us. I hope that you 01:13:30.687 --> 01:13:34.957 really consider the comments that are made and I do 01:13:34.967 --> 01:13:37.787 not support the increase that you guys have proposed 01:13:37.796 --> 01:13:41.787 today. Thank you. Thank you for your comments today 01:13:41.796 --> 01:13:46.296 MS Jackson, just one point of clarification for the 01:13:46.306 --> 01:13:51.257 monthly bill impacts for 2025 for an average customer 01:13:51.267 --> 01:13:56.096 Edison is proposing approximately a 10.3% increase 01:13:56.108 --> 01:14:00.576 for 2025. That's still too much, especially those of 01:14:00.586 --> 01:14:03.747 us that are paying over $400 in electricity right now 01:14:03.757 --> 01:14:09.517 like I am and my house is not that big. I appreciate 01:14:09.527 --> 01:14:15.868 your comments. Thank you operator. Next speaker. 01:14:15.868 --> 01:14:19.287 Our next caller is Tony Clinkscales. You may go ahead 01:14:21.806 --> 01:14:24.927 Uh Good, good. What is it? Good afternoon. My name 01:14:24.937 --> 01:14:29.586 is Tony Clings Skills. Ton. I first name, last name 01:14:29.596 --> 01:14:39.767 Clinkscale Cli NKSC A Les, I'm calling and with the 01:14:39.777 --> 01:14:44.576 same concerns as everyone else and my added comment 01:14:44.586 --> 01:14:49.056 to it is I heard someone and I didn't catch the name 01:14:49.076 --> 01:14:51.618 They were talking about the electric, the electric 01:14:51.628 --> 01:14:56.197 cars that are going to be mandated. And I find that 01:14:56.207 --> 01:15:00.658 that's kind of interesting that California is mandating 01:15:00.707 --> 01:15:06.187 electric cars when we're having such a problem with 01:15:06.197 --> 01:15:11.796 our grids. Keeping up with the current usage that people 01:15:11.806 --> 01:15:19.908 are, are um having to manipulate to live on during 01:15:19.917 --> 01:15:24.207 the day. The tou which is the time of use, we have 01:15:24.217 --> 01:15:30.037 to monitor, you know what time we can wash our dishes 01:15:30.046 --> 01:15:35.217 wash our clothes and we're doing all of this. Wow, 01:15:36.296 --> 01:15:40.478 they're trying to increase electric cars on the road 01:15:40.687 --> 01:15:45.257 while they're having all these new developments. I 01:15:45.267 --> 01:15:50.957 live in the inland Empire and it is just astronomical 01:15:50.967 --> 01:15:56.957 development of businesses and houses which S ce is 01:15:56.967 --> 01:16:02.517 going to have to accommodate. So the more that we build 01:16:02.868 --> 01:16:07.937 the more our grids, what is southern California Edison 01:16:07.947 --> 01:16:14.967 doing to um with for their infrastructure that would 01:16:14.978 --> 01:16:22.148 be got solar power instead of building or using private 01:16:22.158 --> 01:16:28.167 companies to increase our cost. It just doesn't even 01:16:28.177 --> 01:16:34.507 make any sense. Um Also I want to comment on somebody 01:16:34.517 --> 01:16:39.408 else mentioning. Uh No, no, no, no, I'm sorry. Uh You 01:16:39.417 --> 01:16:43.576 mentioned that their annual operating costs includes 01:16:43.586 --> 01:16:48.658 meters employees, poles, wires, all of that stuff. 01:16:48.667 --> 01:16:53.618 Well as some of the other commenters have called in 01:16:53.628 --> 01:16:56.277 and said you can't even get a hold of an employee. 01:16:56.287 --> 01:17:00.056 So who are you paying the CEO isn't answering these 01:17:00.066 --> 01:17:04.336 phone calls and we can't even get through for our concerns 01:17:04.346 --> 01:17:10.767 My meter was out for almost a month and I never got 01:17:10.777 --> 01:17:14.687 an alert and they sent somebody over here, they dispatched 01:17:14.697 --> 01:17:18.457 somebody over here and never even told me. And when 01:17:18.467 --> 01:17:22.187 I asked about it, they said they don't send them out 01:17:22.628 --> 01:17:26.066 That doesn't make any sense. My meters out. I don't 01:17:26.076 --> 01:17:29.767 know and you get send somebody. Ok? I know my time 01:17:29.777 --> 01:17:32.757 is up, but I just wanted to say I'm in concurrence 01:17:32.767 --> 01:17:36.457 with everybody else. It shouldn't increase when you're 01:17:36.478 --> 01:17:39.306 out. You're not even looking at your in infrastructure 01:17:39.316 --> 01:17:44.207 or taking care of the uh so called employees that aren't 01:17:44.217 --> 01:17:47.267 even answering phones. 01:17:47.267 --> 01:17:50.527 Thank you very much for your comments today. Thank 01:17:50.537 --> 01:17:55.046 you for allowing me operator and next speaker please 01:17:57.017 --> 01:18:00.398 Our next caller is Christine Washburn, Redlands resident 01:18:00.586 --> 01:18:03.148 You may go ahead. 01:18:03.148 --> 01:18:11.027 Yes. Uh, Christine C hr Istine Washburn, Washburn. 01:18:11.467 --> 01:18:14.187 Um, I am one of those. Uh, my husband and I are 01:18:14.197 --> 01:18:18.566 retired and on a fixed income, I get a whopping $12 01:18:18.576 --> 01:18:22.846 for, um, social security and he retired as a custodian 01:18:23.388 --> 01:18:28.217 Uh, I am against these rate increases. Um, at every 01:18:28.228 --> 01:18:33.096 turn, we have higher gasoline prices, higher food prices 01:18:33.108 --> 01:18:36.346 higher ho homeowners insurance is doubled because of 01:18:36.358 --> 01:18:41.228 the fires. Um, even tax preparation fees are going 01:18:41.237 --> 01:18:46.247 up. Uh, so what I am against the rate increases, um 01:18:46.378 --> 01:18:50.007 if Imperial County can have lower rates as the other 01:18:50.017 --> 01:18:54.316 lady spoke, um, why can't, uh, s ce be more efficient 01:18:54.326 --> 01:18:58.427 in its use of funds? And why, um, does the CEO require 01:18:58.437 --> 01:19:03.447 $2 million is 1 million not enough per year? Um, I 01:19:03.457 --> 01:19:08.017 just, um, I'm very frustrated that it becomes harder 01:19:08.027 --> 01:19:11.527 and harder to live and I'm a California native. I'd 01:19:11.537 --> 01:19:15.217 like to die in my own home and I just hope and 01:19:15.228 --> 01:19:17.947 pray that we'll be able to make all these payments 01:19:18.187 --> 01:19:23.148 Thank you. Thank you, Miss Washburn operator. Next 01:19:23.158 --> 01:19:28.447 caller, 01:19:28.447 --> 01:19:31.576 our next caller is Karan Nunez with Lincoln Training 01:19:31.586 --> 01:19:35.368 Center. You may go ahead. 01:19:35.368 --> 01:19:39.978 Hello, my name is Caron. Caron. Last name is Nunez 01:19:39.997 --> 01:19:45.728 N UN EZ and I'm with Lincoln Training Center Organization 01:19:45.737 --> 01:19:50.888 We're down in South Almay. What we do is we serve hundreds 01:19:50.898 --> 01:19:57.167 of people with disabilities and I'm in support of GRC 01:19:57.648 --> 01:20:03.868 um especially when I'm in support because I, I like 01:20:03.878 --> 01:20:08.108 that when you restore power after an outage, it's done 01:20:08.118 --> 01:20:12.967 quickly. And so the upgrades are necessary. We have 01:20:12.978 --> 01:20:16.687 people with disabilities who are on breathing machines 01:20:16.697 --> 01:20:19.997 and equipment and their backup systems only last so 01:20:20.007 --> 01:20:26.737 long. So restoration during a short short time of downtime 01:20:26.747 --> 01:20:31.086 is very critical for this population. I also am in 01:20:31.096 --> 01:20:35.947 support because of the increase in cyber security needs 01:20:36.056 --> 01:20:40.728 I'm, I'm aware of what can happen if we don't have 01:20:40.737 --> 01:20:44.648 adequate oversight. So thank you so much for your time 01:20:44.658 --> 01:20:47.957 I appreciate it very much. 01:20:47.957 --> 01:20:52.858 Thank you, MS Nunez operator. Next caller, 01:20:52.858 --> 01:20:56.806 our next caller is Margarita Mascaro. You may go ahead 01:21:05.306 --> 01:21:09.027 and we are not able to hear you, but go ahead. Can 01:21:09.037 --> 01:21:16.836 you hear me? Ok. My name is Margarita Mascaro. Ma Ftorro 01:21:17.437 --> 01:21:22.816 my husband and I, we are 80 years old and we are 01:21:22.826 --> 01:21:28.957 having seen this increases. I mean, everything m market 01:21:29.177 --> 01:21:32.737 uh bills. I mean, it's getting tough. He only gets 01:21:33.007 --> 01:21:35.846 a little more with increase this year, a little more 01:21:35.858 --> 01:21:41.086 than $700. And it's terrible to hear all these people 01:21:41.096 --> 01:21:47.576 make millions of dollars and hectic. It's a very, it's 01:21:47.586 --> 01:21:51.987 incredible. Some days they're going to be present to 01:21:51.997 --> 01:21:55.737 God and they're gonna say, why you let these people 01:21:55.747 --> 01:22:00.478 why you didn't help when they making millions of dollars 01:22:00.868 --> 01:22:04.777 I'm talking about all these senior citizens and all 01:22:04.787 --> 01:22:09.888 the in low income families who are they having the 01:22:09.898 --> 01:22:15.217 bills to pay not enough money to support their food 01:22:15.796 --> 01:22:21.086 And it, it's horrible. It's horrible how these people 01:22:21.096 --> 01:22:26.858 just thinking in the job, just getting this toeo and 01:22:26.868 --> 01:22:31.228 the administration and all making all that money. And 01:22:31.237 --> 01:22:35.537 I do not agree for any, any more increases. We had 01:22:35.546 --> 01:22:40.217 enough and our income is very limited. I, you know 01:22:40.228 --> 01:22:47.237 like I'm really, I have issues with my health. I'm 01:22:47.247 --> 01:22:59.507 90% in my house and I have to use electricity. Um 01:22:59.507 --> 01:23:05.316 Can you hear me? Hello? Yes, we can hear you. Yes, 01:23:05.326 --> 01:23:09.207 I do not agree with these people. They want increase 01:23:09.417 --> 01:23:14.277 Please help us to change different companies or somebody 01:23:14.287 --> 01:23:20.517 else to bring us electricity to our homes. 01:23:20.517 --> 01:23:23.687 Thank you very much for your comments today. Thank 01:23:23.697 --> 01:23:28.846 you operator. Next speaker 01:23:28.846 --> 01:23:32.118 and our next caller is Rex Worthy. You may go ahead 01:23:32.957 --> 01:23:41.747 Thank you. Uh My name is Rex Worthy. Rexwo rt hy, I 01:23:41.757 --> 01:23:46.037 live in Fraser Park, California. I'm 69 years old. 01:23:46.046 --> 01:23:50.796 I'm on a fixed income and I am on the care program 01:23:51.267 --> 01:23:56.378 Um, that does help, uh, uh, big time but still I, I 01:23:56.388 --> 01:24:01.517 I'm, I'm dying here, I'm dying here in California and 01:24:01.527 --> 01:24:05.066 the bills are just getting too much. I'm saving every 01:24:05.076 --> 01:24:12.577 little penny or dollar nowadays. And, um, it's just 01:24:12.586 --> 01:24:16.206 uh, I don't know, uh, I, it's just getting too much 01:24:16.217 --> 01:24:19.988 for me. You know, my insurance has increased like everyone 01:24:19.997 --> 01:24:22.478 else. The cost of living in California has increased 01:24:23.197 --> 01:24:28.758 Um I, I own my house. I'm still on a mortgage but 01:24:28.767 --> 01:24:36.876 every time they get the taxes, um uh it's just uh um 01:24:37.356 --> 01:24:40.517 anyway, I just wanted to say to uh to the community 01:24:40.528 --> 01:24:45.157 please uh vote no on this subject for uh there have 01:24:45.166 --> 01:24:51.478 been a good, uh it's been a good uh um company. Uh 01:24:51.488 --> 01:24:55.666 We do get Black G up up here in Fraser Park, but 01:24:55.677 --> 01:25:00.597 it's just um, I'm just old and I'm on, you know, social 01:25:00.606 --> 01:25:06.166 security and um I'm just trying uh I have a budget 01:25:06.177 --> 01:25:09.088 and it just doesn't work every month and it keeps going 01:25:09.097 --> 01:25:14.856 up. So, um I just want to ask the California Public 01:25:14.896 --> 01:25:19.097 Attorney Commission to vote. No, on this uh application 01:25:19.146 --> 01:25:22.758 Thank you very much. Thank you for your comments, Mr 01:25:22.767 --> 01:25:25.247 Worthy 01:25:25.247 --> 01:25:28.478 operator. Next speaker please. 01:25:28.478 --> 01:25:31.497 And our next caller is Lisa Bowden. You may go ahead 01:25:32.447 --> 01:25:36.186 Yes. Hi. My name is Lisa, L isa, last name Bowden, 01:25:36.407 --> 01:25:40.666 B as in boy. Owd as in David, E as in Edward 01:25:40.677 --> 01:25:45.588 N as in Nancy and I reside in Rancho Cucamonga, California 01:25:46.068 --> 01:25:50.068 Um, the constant increases, it seems like this is just 01:25:50.077 --> 01:25:54.478 such monopoly. It's hard for now. It's just my husband 01:25:54.488 --> 01:25:58.988 and I to even, you know, buy groceries, you know, put 01:25:58.997 --> 01:26:01.728 gas in our vehicles. I did buy a plug in hybrid, which 01:26:01.738 --> 01:26:04.646 has helped a bit with that. But, you know, there's 01:26:04.657 --> 01:26:08.597 so many of us on fixed incomes and this is really any 01:26:08.606 --> 01:26:11.856 increases with any utility is hurting the middle class 01:26:12.287 --> 01:26:16.916 Um, it seems like as customers are paying for the inadequacies 01:26:16.927 --> 01:26:20.376 of the maintenance of what Edison should be doing, 01:26:20.706 --> 01:26:23.157 uh, between, you know, like the fires, I've had to 01:26:23.166 --> 01:26:26.528 live through the Grand Prix fires. Uh, the high salaries 01:26:26.537 --> 01:26:29.228 which has been already spoke about. Um, I was online 01:26:29.238 --> 01:26:32.318 too looking at what some of these people are making 01:26:32.327 --> 01:26:35.247 and it's crazy. Um, they should have their salaries 01:26:35.258 --> 01:26:38.548 reduced if you ask me. Um, and of course some owning 01:26:38.557 --> 01:26:43.396 stock, um, then like with, with the, the fires, the 01:26:43.407 --> 01:26:46.186 homeowners insurance, some of my neighbors can't even 01:26:46.197 --> 01:26:48.896 get home owners insurance except if they have to go 01:26:48.907 --> 01:26:51.416 through a special plan through, uh, California. What 01:26:51.427 --> 01:26:56.967 doesn't seem right. Uh, the tear. Um, luckily my husband 01:26:56.978 --> 01:26:59.916 and I both work out of the house. So when I do 01:26:59.927 --> 01:27:02.077 need to do anything, when I have time, at least I can 01:27:02.088 --> 01:27:05.137 do my laundry. But there's very many people that have 01:27:05.146 --> 01:27:07.947 families that have to wait till the evening, even to 01:27:07.956 --> 01:27:11.686 watch TV, cook their meals. It should just be a one 01:27:11.697 --> 01:27:15.517 rate and a lower rate for everybody. Um, I'm not a 01:27:15.528 --> 01:27:18.478 big believer in climate change. I think that's a leftist 01:27:18.488 --> 01:27:20.548 agenda, so I'm not going to make any more comments 01:27:20.557 --> 01:27:27.537 on that. Um, the, uh, again, just the, uh, just the 01:27:27.548 --> 01:27:30.827 cost that it's gonna cost us all. It's not right. There's 01:27:31.548 --> 01:27:34.157 something needs to be done. Everybody needs to vote 01:27:34.166 --> 01:27:37.916 No. Um uh it's, it's like I said, it's hurting the 01:27:37.927 --> 01:27:40.517 middle class and, and it's not fair. It's almost like 01:27:40.697 --> 01:27:44.818 um between all these companies and it will be a little 01:27:44.827 --> 01:27:47.217 bit po political dis invite. They're trying to turn 01:27:47.228 --> 01:27:49.427 us into a socialist country, so we have to rely on 01:27:49.436 --> 01:27:52.528 the government. Um, but I hope everybody does that 01:27:52.537 --> 01:27:58.537 This is voted down. Um, and that, uh with the renewable 01:27:58.548 --> 01:28:01.537 power grid, the infrastructure right now can't handle 01:28:01.548 --> 01:28:04.456 it. And it's going to be a long time before it can 01:28:04.467 --> 01:28:07.818 be handled and that's all my comments. And I thank 01:28:07.827 --> 01:28:11.626 you for having this call today. Thank you, MS Bowden 01:28:13.028 --> 01:28:16.088 operator. Next call. 01:28:16.088 --> 01:28:18.037 Thank you. And before we go to the next caller, if 01:28:18.048 --> 01:28:20.217 you would like to make a comment, please unmute your 01:28:20.228 --> 01:28:23.396 phone. Press star one and record your first and last 01:28:23.407 --> 01:28:27.488 name clearly. Our next caller is James Cervantes. You 01:28:27.497 --> 01:28:30.347 may go ahead. 01:28:30.347 --> 01:28:35.298 Hello everybody. Uh, my name is James Cervantes. J 01:28:35.307 --> 01:28:43.008 am ESC er VA NTS live in Chino Hills. Uh so I 01:28:43.017 --> 01:28:46.597 understand the GRC and the need to increase the rates 01:28:46.606 --> 01:28:50.728 However, how are they going to distribute the increase 01:28:50.738 --> 01:28:54.037 within the three tiers? Are they going to spread it 01:28:54.048 --> 01:28:57.606 out evenly or add the increase to a majority of a single 01:28:57.617 --> 01:29:00.988 tier such as the high peak tier? That is already a 01:29:01.017 --> 01:29:04.568 high rate. Also along with that there's the winter 01:29:04.577 --> 01:29:07.017 cost periods and the summer cost periods, which are 01:29:07.028 --> 01:29:10.228 also I believe different rates as well. So I just want 01:29:10.238 --> 01:29:12.407 to know or kind of wonder how they're going to spread 01:29:12.416 --> 01:29:17.557 this increase. Also, the increase of over 40.6% is 01:29:17.568 --> 01:29:21.077 way too high of an increase to a utility. That is already 01:29:21.088 --> 01:29:24.478 one of the highest utilities we pay again. I understand 01:29:24.488 --> 01:29:27.258 the need to increase the rate every four years, which 01:29:27.267 --> 01:29:31.177 is what the GRC is. However, I believe a lower percentage 01:29:31.186 --> 01:29:36.646 would be more understandable than a 4040 than a 40.6% 01:29:36.657 --> 01:29:41.988 increase and that's it. Thank you much. Thank you, 01:29:41.997 --> 01:29:46.896 Mister Cervantes operator. Next caller, 01:29:46.896 --> 01:29:49.988 our next caller is Alice Snyder. You may go ahead. 01:29:51.818 --> 01:29:57.157 Hi, my name is Alice Snyder A L I ce Snyd. Er 01:29:57.528 --> 01:30:00.508 um I'm in my late twenties and I live in La Crescenta 01:30:00.517 --> 01:30:04.637 and I just wanted to add my voice to this conversation 01:30:04.646 --> 01:30:07.686 because I understand and appreciate that a lot of um 01:30:07.927 --> 01:30:11.117 senior citizens are engaging in this conversation. 01:30:11.126 --> 01:30:13.298 But I also want to make it clear that it's not just 01:30:13.307 --> 01:30:17.088 them who are opposing this increase as well. Um I do 01:30:17.097 --> 01:30:22.887 you know, specifically myself, I have a master's degree 01:30:22.896 --> 01:30:25.508 in environmental science and specializing in the interaction 01:30:25.517 --> 01:30:28.666 between society and the environment. So I understand 01:30:28.677 --> 01:30:31.097 that there needs to be a shift in where we use our 01:30:31.106 --> 01:30:33.626 energy and how we use our energy. But I don't believe 01:30:33.637 --> 01:30:36.017 that the rate should increase so drastically because 01:30:36.028 --> 01:30:38.867 it discourages people from choosing a renewable option 01:30:39.287 --> 01:30:42.186 Um And to really make the change last, we shouldn't 01:30:42.197 --> 01:30:44.537 make people choose between keeping their house warm 01:30:44.548 --> 01:30:48.017 or protecting the environment. That's all I have to 01:30:48.028 --> 01:30:50.537 say. Thank you. 01:30:50.537 --> 01:30:54.166 Thank you very much for your comments operator. Next 01:30:54.177 --> 01:30:57.747 speaker, 01:30:57.747 --> 01:31:01.048 our next caller is Aggie Jacoby. You may go ahead. 01:31:03.298 --> 01:31:07.407 Hi, this is Peggy. I'm sorry, can you hear me? Yes 01:31:07.416 --> 01:31:11.738 we can hear you. Ok. Um I'm, my name is Peggy Jacobi 01:31:11.747 --> 01:31:17.318 pe GGYJ AC OB I, I'm from the Victor Valley, the high 01:31:17.327 --> 01:31:26.488 desert of California. And I would like to uh um suggest 01:31:26.497 --> 01:31:32.728 that our elected officials that are for the people 01:31:32.738 --> 01:31:39.617 of California would put a lot of pressure on Edison 01:31:40.017 --> 01:31:45.706 I call for an audit of Edison to see where their money 01:31:45.717 --> 01:31:49.876 is going to. We as, as Californians, we wanna know 01:31:49.887 --> 01:31:53.907 what their money is going to and then for them to be 01:31:53.916 --> 01:32:00.228 audited. And also um there was one other thing um who 01:32:00.238 --> 01:32:06.706 owns Edison, it feels like some kind of foreign entity 01:32:06.856 --> 01:32:12.106 purchased Edison and they're taking advantage of the 01:32:12.117 --> 01:32:18.548 American people. And so I know that with um uh Gavin 01:32:18.557 --> 01:32:22.278 Newsom and his solar and his electric stuff and him 01:32:22.287 --> 01:32:25.617 all thinking that that this is what we need. No, we 01:32:25.626 --> 01:32:29.896 need our power grids improved. We need Edison to be 01:32:29.907 --> 01:32:33.258 audited. We want to know where the money is going and 01:32:33.267 --> 01:32:36.936 we want it to our money to be put to good use 01:32:36.947 --> 01:32:42.856 and no, I am against the raise in our Edison bill 100% 01:32:42.947 --> 01:32:49.528 Thank you. Thank you, Miss Jacoby. Mhm. Operator. Next 01:32:49.537 --> 01:32:51.887 speaker, please. 01:32:51.887 --> 01:32:54.697 Our next caller is Rachel Beard. You may go ahead. 01:32:54.706 --> 01:33:05.367 Your line is open 01:33:05.367 --> 01:33:07.327 again, Rachel Beard. We're not able to hear you. Please 01:33:07.338 --> 01:33:13.146 check your mute button. Ok. And then 01:33:13.146 --> 01:33:18.416 yes. Um yeah, don't approve of the increase. 01:33:18.416 --> 01:33:22.077 I don't believe that they need to push solar power 01:33:22.088 --> 01:33:27.258 powers on houses that um just to, you know, help out 01:33:27.728 --> 01:33:31.697 So I don't agree with them pushing solar if we don't 01:33:31.706 --> 01:33:34.537 really want solar, but we do, we don't want, we don't 01:33:34.548 --> 01:33:38.927 want to increase. Um I believe that when we have fires 01:33:38.936 --> 01:33:43.447 that we pay our fire department through our taxes. 01:33:43.456 --> 01:33:47.447 So I don't think that should be an issue and I feel 01:33:47.456 --> 01:33:50.666 like 01:33:50.666 --> 01:33:53.626 we really, like one of the gentlemen said that we really 01:33:53.637 --> 01:33:57.436 we need to really now that your company really needs 01:33:57.447 --> 01:34:05.407 to check them and own budget. Yeah, but, and um if 01:34:05.416 --> 01:34:08.747 there's something that will way around this increase 01:34:09.117 --> 01:34:11.517 I know it's 10% seems like it's less, you know, it 01:34:11.528 --> 01:34:13.738 doesn't matter to you guys but doesn't have a trust 01:34:14.068 --> 01:34:18.508 We do care about the increase. And so that's all I 01:34:18.517 --> 01:34:21.706 wanted to say. 01:34:21.706 --> 01:34:24.838 Thank you very much for your comments today. Ok. Thank 01:34:24.847 --> 01:34:30.037 you, operator. Next speaker, please. Thank you. And 01:34:30.048 --> 01:34:31.876 again, before we go to the next caller, if you would 01:34:31.887 --> 01:34:34.347 like to make a comment, please unmute your phone and 01:34:34.356 --> 01:34:37.867 press star one to record your name. Our next caller 01:34:37.876 --> 01:34:49.617 is Donnell Lockman Harris. You may go ahead 01:34:49.617 --> 01:34:51.807 again, Donna Lockman Harris. We're not able to hear 01:34:51.818 --> 01:34:56.617 you. Please check your mute button. 01:34:56.617 --> 01:35:01.447 Are you saying Anna Lockman Harris? 01:35:01.447 --> 01:35:08.247 Yes, go ahead. My name is spelled a Nnah as in he 01:35:09.157 --> 01:35:15.758 last name is Laux as in X ray, hyphen, M as in 01:35:15.767 --> 01:35:24.617 Mary Injares as in Sam. I'm in the Newhall California 01:35:24.626 --> 01:35:32.186 area and I totally agree with uh not increasing the 01:35:32.197 --> 01:35:37.416 uh rate, at least not 10.3 or 10.6. Whatever it is 01:35:37.427 --> 01:35:39.978 that you're looking at, I don't think it should be 01:35:39.988 --> 01:35:45.106 more than a 2% increase. Um I've recently lost my job 01:35:45.117 --> 01:35:49.947 I'm a senior um gonna be 64 in a couple of months 01:35:50.537 --> 01:35:54.838 and having to look for work at this age, worried about 01:35:55.497 --> 01:36:02.508 having income to even keep a roof over my head is concerning 01:36:02.517 --> 01:36:04.827 me, let alone having to worry about paying a couple 01:36:04.838 --> 01:36:09.646 of 100 bucks a month for the electric bill. Um, and 01:36:09.657 --> 01:36:13.106 I just barely qualified for the care program because 01:36:13.117 --> 01:36:18.068 of the loss of my employment. But that still is over 01:36:18.097 --> 01:36:24.017 $100 a month if not more for the electricity. So I 01:36:24.028 --> 01:36:27.517 just wanna make sure that you, you consider that as 01:36:27.528 --> 01:36:33.298 well that some of us have issues that may take place 01:36:33.307 --> 01:36:36.427 in our lives that make it difficult for us such as 01:36:36.677 --> 01:36:40.057 unemployment. And there's probably gonna be a lot more 01:36:40.068 --> 01:36:44.827 people that are losing their jobs because of what happened 01:36:44.838 --> 01:36:48.228 with the COVID and property management and real estate 01:36:48.238 --> 01:36:52.298 management. So I thank you for allowing us to call 01:36:52.307 --> 01:36:57.117 in and I as other colleges stated, do hope that this 01:36:57.126 --> 01:37:00.597 isn't falling on deaf ears that you really are taking 01:37:00.606 --> 01:37:05.537 into consideration the situation with um how difficult 01:37:05.548 --> 01:37:09.177 it is for us, especially older individuals that don't 01:37:09.186 --> 01:37:14.896 have uh a steady income or a good income to be able 01:37:14.907 --> 01:37:19.497 to provide for ourselves. It's not a joke when people 01:37:19.508 --> 01:37:24.008 are talking about being homeless or having to eat cat 01:37:24.017 --> 01:37:28.956 food or dog food because you, you can't afford the 01:37:28.967 --> 01:37:32.738 electricity in in the summer months because it's so 01:37:32.747 --> 01:37:37.617 overwhelmingly hot. Thank you again. 01:37:37.617 --> 01:37:39.956 Thank you. We greatly appreciate your comments today 01:37:41.238 --> 01:37:44.577 Operator. Next speaker, please. 01:37:44.577 --> 01:37:49.157 Last scholar is Loretta Cooper. You may go ahead, 01:37:49.157 --> 01:37:58.177 Loretta Cooper, Lore TT A coo P er Inglewood California 01:37:59.677 --> 01:38:04.017 I respectfully offer my comments regarding my opposition 01:38:04.028 --> 01:38:08.367 to the proposed cost increases, 01:38:08.367 --> 01:38:12.798 financial costs related to wild fires. Some of which 01:38:12.807 --> 01:38:16.697 were linked to utility equipment failures should not 01:38:16.706 --> 01:38:19.978 be passed on to customers. 01:38:19.978 --> 01:38:23.997 Infrastructure improvements are part of doing business 01:38:24.008 --> 01:38:30.787 particularly for a privately owned entity. Compensation 01:38:30.807 --> 01:38:35.467 to shareholders is likely not a major concern for the 01:38:35.478 --> 01:38:42.347 majority of S ce s 15 million customers. Sve profits 01:38:42.356 --> 01:38:50.008 were $954 million for 2022 which was about a $20 million 01:38:50.657 --> 01:38:55.077 increase from 2021 01:38:55.077 --> 01:38:59.927 S ce cost to Southern California. Thank 01:39:40.017 --> 01:39:42.827 you for hearing us out. 01:39:42.827 --> 01:39:46.497 Thank you for your comments today, MS Cooper 01:39:46.497 --> 01:39:50.338 Operator.
